🏈 2009 Bama players paid for autographs?

says Greg McElroy and Ali Sherief signed but refused payment due to NCAA rules.....LOL. Greg always looking to the future. Smart kid. Cody didnt think he would even live this long so he took the 400.00 bucks and ran. LOL

Didnt matter. Not within ncaa window
But. To all players.
To bring Bama down many many are looking
We all know false news is the word of the day
And it doesnt take but one Langham or Jelks to do it.
But it takes hard core proof. See Ohio State/ Auburn etc.
You cant beat the beast...so try otherwise
Always a fear

i will never understand why it's against the rules for a college athlete to make money from THEIR autograph. it's their's. it's no one else's. THEY own it. it's not owned by the school, it's not owned by the ncaa, it's not owned by the government, it's not even owned by their parents. so if a player can make money off of something that is solely theirs, then i say, "why not?"

it's memorabilia. it's not a legal document; which, funnily enough, they sign when they chose to go to that school to play a game that makes the coaches and the school millions, upon millions, upon millions, upon millions, upon millions of dollars each and every year.

the ncaa is like a fascist regime that wants control over everything.

This is some pretty weak ass shit. Not to mention statute of limitations has passed on something from 2009. Some dumbass must have paid these guys for a "story" they thought would be huge (as if kids getting paid $20-400 for an autograph with absolutely zero proof would be a big story anyway).

The funny thing is the schools have no problem auctioning off footballs, jerseys, helmet, posters, etc. autographed by players. Its only illegal for the kid to make money, not the school. NCAA is so screwed up.

I remember when all the shit with Johnny Manziel getting caught up for signing autographs for money, someone pointed out how many signed footballs and pictures A&M was selling at the time.

The reason it is against the rules is because it would be easy for a booster to give kids thousands for signing a napkin in order to get around the other rules about paying players. But, if schools are going to sell autographed items and other items easily tied back to players (like certain numbers and names on jerseys) then they should be required to put all profits into an escrow account to be given to the player once they graduate. It is bullshit to make money off a kid if he can't do it himself too.

Absolutely.....put all money in escrow account....divide it equally (it is a team game) among those graduating or finishing based onyears on team...something....
Give extra 500$ for spending at bowl game etc. help get rid of incentives to do things un-NCAA rules... never will get rid of cheaters...or agents....so have to work around things

O the AU fans are really enjoying....
But what the hell...if the story was about USCe doing it....nobody would read...
And if was about AU doing it...we would be really enjoying

'm not even talking about auburn fans. the ones i've read are from fans of other programs.

one is an ohio state fan. so take that for what it's worth (which ain't much, lol). and another one is a usc fan. again, not much credibility there, either.

While I do not think players should get paid to play football or any other sport at the collegiate level, as I feel they are already getting paid through scholarship, I think it's beyond bogus they can't sell their autographs or even have a job. I understand all of the underlining ideals that could come from both, but keeping someone from making money is un-American in my eyes. The NCAA can say whatever they want, but the whole North Carolina debacle is so far beyond anything that is moral and ethical that I cannot sit here and defend the NCAA. Points have been made on here that the University takes these same autographs and auctions them off to boosters and profits. If that money is not going to charity or children's hospitals, I have to agree that is a MAJOR flaw in this system. I still stand firm on my pay for play stance, but I do believe an autograph or pictures for money is well within their human rights to capitalize from.

This is fucking hysterical. I mean, 8 year old allegations?? Really?? This just wreaks of sheer desperation on someone's part to bring down Bama. If that is the absolute best that someone can do, then we have nothing to worry about ever again! :rolf:

Al.com reached out to Marquise Johnson and he flat out denied any money changing hands or "steering" other players over to the back of this guys truck.

Some of these fans though are really sad. Ohio State fan says, this is just like what happened with OSU and the tattoos!! LMAO $14,000+ in tattoos and memorabilia exchanged hands "while these guys were still playing AND your damn coach knew about it and lied!!!!"

Not only is the statute of limitations LONG passed but it would be their word (people no one has ever heard of) against the players word with absolutely no evidence. So, either this story is bullshit or its a combination of the players being smart and these guys doing the buying being very dumb considering it was supposedly all done with cash and conversations in person.
