Eleven days after Auburn hired former Tigers defensive lineman Tracy Rocker as defensive line coach, an NFL team appears to have swooped in and poached him. According to a Twitter report Sunday afternoon by Pete Thamel of Yahoo sports, the Philadelphia Eagles have "targeted" Rocker as defensive line coach. In a tweet, Thamel added that Rocker is "expected to" leave Auburn for Philadelphia under newly hired defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and head coach Nick Sirianni.
The Tigers hired Rocker, 54, away from South Carolina a week and four days ago Jan. 13. Just three days ago, new Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin opened up on a "huge" impact of having former players such as Rocker aboard the Tigers' staff.
"I can feel it in the conversations I had with (running backs coach) Cadillac (Williams), with (cornerbacks) coach (Zac) Etheridge, with coach Rocker," Harsin said this past Thursday on a conference call with former Auburn players, according to Mark Murphy of 247Sports affiliate Auburn Undercover. "You feel that. I know that as a Boise State (alumnus), I know the pride of playing at Boise State. I know the pride as a coach, and being part of that program. I understand that, I appreciate that, I embrace that.
"Those three in particular, with how they have been around our guys, there is no question about the pride that they have for Auburn football. There is no question that these guys are going to make an impact with our current players now on what it means to be a Tiger ā no doubt about it."
