šŸˆ You’re The Head Coach, What Changes Do YOU Make?

@Brandon Van de Graaff @TerryP

When was Roach hired as DL coach and does that coincide with the drop in productivity?
2020. Before that it was Brian Baker in 2019 and Craig Kuligowski in 2018.

I think our last great DL coach was probably Karl Dunbar in 2017... though its important to note that 2017 was the last "old school" physical Bama team that we used to see as fans before we committed to being more of an offense first type of team. The drop in D Line performance could maybe be attributed to scheme changes... im probably simplifying the issue though.

@TideatMileHigh is correct, it was already on a slide... Baker and Kuligowski were misfires by Saban. Roach didn't help much because he wasn't a great teacher at that position. Also factored in are the recruiting misses and some bad evals. IMO, Roach is better now than he was when he slid into that spot, but he's still not a top DL coach.

Nick was BIG on hiring coaches that were elite at recruiting. Tosh and Lance were excellent. I think Roach was hired for his recruiting ability more than coaching. When Tosh had to be the DC when Pruitt went to 10RC, we learned the move to DC wasn't going to work.

I am old and all we do is repeat the same shit over and over (but we tell the tale the same way each time) and my take is Kalen needs to upgrade assistants.

Offensive Line, Special Teams, and Linebacker (Morrell) OLB Robinson

Shaun Deion Hamilton is the linebacker coach for Detroit Lions...give him a call

Have a friend that says, "coaches too soft, need assistants with SEC experience". Does DeBoer know any that he can trust? That is the question, you may end up with a backstabbing Phil Fulmer...

I would hire an analyst and his job would be just to coach how to train to be a D1 player and then a pro. He would watch practice and game film to find loafs and get it out of the players. Like a life coach but how to be a dominate football player. My first choice would be Julio Jones.

Maybe this team needs to fire assistants (that are performing subpar) during the season... so the subpar coaches are replaced before or during the portal season.. it is ridiculous coaches that you know aren't going to be her are recruiting and still evaluating future talent.. One reason these players may be turning down Alabama is, they don't know who is going to be coaching them in the future.. Like a pig in a poke..

Thanks guys…That’s what I was thinking. We need a good teacher of fundamentals…we have to evaluate and develop players…I don’t think Roach is cutting it in that regard

Funny you mention that. I spoke with a family member this afternoon who had just left the AFCA coaching convention in Charlotte. He made a comment that CFB, more and more as time passes, seems to be more about strategy and concepts and less about the importance of fundamentals and skills development.

All this nonsense reminds me of the Bryant quote about the same things win that have always won...
