| FTBL You want proof Saturday Down South doesn't know football?

Good Lord. Saban was one game from playing for that Natty his second year and won it his third. Smart made it to the NC his second year (lost) and went 11-3 his third. You could argue that makes them about the same, but Bama went 6-7 the year before Saban and UGA went 10-3 the year before Smart. Matter of fact UGA had won 10 games in 4 of the last 5 years before Smart took over (with 1 losing season in the last 10 years prior) while Bama had only managed 10 wins only 2 times in the previous 5 years with 4 losing seasons in the last 10.

SaturdayDownSouth didn't say that. An anonymous coach said it in an Athlon Sports Magazine. In fact, whoever the SDS writer is, disagreed with the assessment. Did you just read the headline?

Good points, but more importantly, the reason for the difference in those records was the players that were left when Shula, and Richt, left. Saban had to build 'Bama's talent level back significantly, and Richt had recruited well, so the players were there for Kirby, much more so than for Saban.

yeah......and?

does that mean that Coach Saban didn't win 5 national titles at Alabama?
does that mean the Coach Smart won a national title at uga?

nope, it means neither of those things. it also means nothing else.

seriously! what does it matter, or more importantly, which is it news, that Kirby Smart "built up" uga faster than Nick Saban did for Alabama? and like @bradenob said, their cupboard was more well-stocked than ours when the respective coaches took over.

still....none of that matters. it's a news story for the sake of a news story.
