Woodson may start as a defensive back. Also, both Blake Sims and Kendall Kelly were highly rated receivers coming out of high school. I'm hearing Kelly may be moved back to receiver because of his size.

We may not have another Julio on this team, but we have plenty of talent waiting to earn their stripes in the spring.

Kevin Norwood is the guy to watch, he has done things when he has the ball in practices and the few times hes been onfield for the past few years.

If there is a setback, its that I am unsure if he has some behavioral problems and Saban doesnt like it. Perhaps that and Julio is the reason he hasnt played more.

We're going to miss Julio for sure. He's the most dynamic we've ever had. I expect Maze and Hanks to step up admirably though.

Most dynamic player? David Palmer says hello; Richardson will after next season as well. Jones is a great football player--I'm not arguing that point.

If Maze comes back he will be the "go-to" guy. I actually like Hanks as well. I will not lie and pretend to know anything about the others. I've heard some things (nothing bad) but haven't seen enough to form an opinion of my own. I will say Sylvie has great size. He may not be an immediate impact type guy, as Julio was, but he will be a good one before he leaves you guys.

I know I will catch hell for this but I dont think we will miss jones that much as far as catching the ball. Blocking yes but as a WR no. He has dropped more passes than I care to count.

The fact that I agree with you may not make you feel that much better but I think he will be missed as a downfield blocker more than a receiver

Sylvie is about the same size as Maze so I don't know where u get the 'great size' stuff. He's only 5'11", 175. Marvin Shinn has good size at 6'3", and supposedly he's bulked up to 190. Sylvie will be a beast on special teams as a return man, that's where he'll make his impact next season.

Oh sure, who would miss 78 catches, over 1,000 yards, and 7 TDs? :lance:

and what did Julio drop, 2-3 passes all year? good lord.

I distinctly remember getting mad at Julio in the past from missing catches also... until this year he was really bad, IMO, at catching the ball with his body instead of his hands and that led to a lot of dropped passes-- obviously this year tho he showed vast improvements at just simply catching the football

And I think the biggest thing about Julio leaving is the fact that we're just going to miss "THE JULIO JONES," he's a big distraction to the defense, and having a guy like him opens up the running game vastly b/c wherever he is on the field is where safeties and the best corner on the defense are concentrating. And he's a fantastic blocker and has really stepped up in big situations.

Dude seriously? Julio for a long stretch was good for at least one drop per game!
Don’t get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed having him on the team. He was a leader and an absolute beast blocking down field not to mention the ability to make some awesome catches and game breaking plays. To discount his drops though is like looking through Crimson colored glasses. I thought that that, if anything, would be the one thing he might stick around to improve on but he has an NFL prototype frame and ability which should make him the second receiver taken in the draft.

One or two drops. But on easy routes, mostly curls. They were never in key situations and didnt affect overall game and probably wont in the NFL, but it was like the obligatory Julio drop.

It just happens for some reason.

He dropped too many LAST YEAR, but Julio has NOT dropped many at all this year, period. That's not a "crimson colored glass" or any other crap. He just hasnt this year.

most of julio's drops came in the first quarter.. alot of them came on the first drive.. but when the game was on the line julio was clutch.. he made huge plays that blew open huge games..

he was also a legitimate run threat after the catch.. i would like to see the numbers on the wide receiver screen play alone.. i bet he averaged 10 yards..

remember the overtime catch against lsu in 08? that is what julio brings to the table.. and no we have never had another player that dominate in those situations..

Julio's dropped passes stick out in my mind more for two reasons:

1. Those passes were square in the hands. His hands have been one of the best, so those drops made it maddening.

2. It is Julio, I think we immortalized him too much; him making any mistakes were just major precedents.

I hate to say it man, but Julio was good for one drop a game, mainly SEC games, in the first part of the game. HOWEVER, he came through so many times for us. In particular when it mattered.

This is the only pressing thing against him but I'm certain that cat will get past it.

No one.

Julio was a unique item, in the same vein as Cody was unique. We will be receiver by committee, but oh what a committee.

This is both good and bad. Its good in the we will be forced into spreading the wealth, which means that our depth at WR will tip the scale in our favor against teams that don't match this depth with their Secondary. Its bad in that it will require our QB to be able to work deeper into his check downs because "Option 1" is less likely to be open/uncoverable.

I would not be surprised to hear that we end up missing him most as a blocking Receiver.

No disrespect LBS, but I don't see losing Julio as both good and bad. I don't see a bit of good in it. I know I was dreaming to hope he'd come back. I really felt good about it though. Oh well.

I am sure I'm being too dramatic about it, but I don't see how we replace Julio (esp. if Maze leaves too). I'm just wondering if his loss will end up costing us a game or two. I was so excited about 2011 until yesterday. Now, I'm totally uncertain about our season.

I know I sound way too negative. We just lost a ton of weapons with one player. I guess the bright side is his presence didn't get us the win vs. SC, LSU or Auburn. So I guess football will continue on. I just love the way we used his skills the 2nd half of the season. His years went by way too fast.

Touche. I had them reversed in my head.
