Does anyone think (or has anyone heard) if Dre K will get a chance next week? I haven't heard anything. I just think that we could use him to sub in for Ma Johnson.
I don't see how this staff is going to be able to keep him off the field. But, if they somehow end up doing so...he's going to be in serious consideration for a lot of playing time in '10.
Think about that. The #1 CB in the nation in his recruiting class ends up red-shirting?!?!
Saban said a week ago that Dre would see time this season. We already have seen Rod Woodson play on special teams. I know he hasn't been here long but I am noticing a trend that when he has a senior starter. He makes sure a freshman gets playing time that is expected to contend for that position or a similar position.
I would imagine that Dre will be our Nickle Back by the end of the season. I'm kinda surprised not to see him on Special Teams already (he might have been in on some, but I didn't notice him out there).
Dre was my choice as an impact freshman in a thread some months ago. Id like to see him, Kevin Norwood, Tana Patrick, Nico Johnson, and Trent Richardson go after it next week.
I know its not stating something that you don't already know or think of Terry but to put this comment into some perspective, last year we red shirted Tyler love who was a 5* recruit and the #2 overall tackle in his class, this year I could easily see us shirting Fluker especially since he was moved to RT on the depth chart and sitting 3rd currently. Obviously this is assuming we stay healthy. We also have Star that shirted after coming in the #2 overall duel threat QB, AJ is likely to shirt this year (#4) pro style QB, P. Simms will be here next year and I really see no way he doesnt shirt (#1 QB). Eddie Lacy, Kendall Kelly, Petey Smith.. The list seems to go on forever for the amount of talent we have that are not going to even see the field for at least a year and this doesnt even include the influx of potential talent that has already commited to Alabama for next year like Demarcus Milner (#1 db), Craig Sanders (#12 rush DE & my pick as the dark horse of next years class)
Basically its a good time to be an Alabama fan when you are sitting in September and you only have 8 spots max left to fill for NEXT year and we are able to just sit back and basically cherry pick the rest. We are now to the point (if not REALLY close) to where we are recruiting to fill needs as opposed to only recruiting to get the best talent and athletism. Basically if you see a freshman playing from next year on its not because we lack depth or talent at that position, its because he is a stud and is headed for a career of working primarily on Sunday.
How can Dre play any worse than Marquis Johnson? He's terrible. He hurt us against VT and the last two games of 08-09...don't know what has happened to him, but he seems to be struggling.:a:
MA was not at fault on VT's long pass against a busted coverage nor was he the guilty party on the TD return. Barron missed his assignment on both leaving MA hung out to dry. It seems everyone is basing their reaction off RoMac's reaction and/or Herbstreits analysis. Barron made several mistakes, but that coverage bust and his allowing Walker to get outside of him on the 98 yard return were the most costly. He'll improve and be a stud by mid season.
Dre and BJ Scott will/should play a lot over the next two weeks. Their knowledge of the defense isn't quiet there yet, but it's really close. I would not be surprised for them to be a vital part of the D by season's end.
Of course I could be wrong. Just going off who got the brunt of the tongue lashing on the sidelines.
I would expect several of our young guys to get onto the field in the next 2 games as long as we are clicking smoothly on both sides of the ball without any of the slip ups from last week.
