USC confirms hiring of Okla. St. assistant Bob Connelly

Following a couple of days worth of speculation, Steve Sarkisian has officially made a new coaching addition at USC.

Wednesday afternoon, the athletic department confirmed that Bob Connelly has been hired as USC’s offensive line coach. In addition to his coordinating duties, Connelly will also carry the title of run-game coordinator with the Trojans.

Connelly will replace Tim Drevno, who left ‘SC last month to take over as the offensive coordinator at Michigan.

“We are delighted to have Bob join our staff,” said Sarkisian in a statement. “He is a great fit for what we do. He is very familiar with Pac-12 and West Coast football, and he is also very versatile as he has coached various offensive styles in his career.”

Connelly spent the 2014 season coaching the offensive line at Oklahoma State. That was his first — and only — season with the Cowboys.

Other stops during Connelly’s 18-year coaching career included Pac-12 tours at schools like Arizona State (2012), UCLA (2007) and Washington State (2001-02). He also spent time as an assistant at Alabama (2003-06).

"Bucket step" Bob!!!

I was/am talking with a USC person about this and started thinking...do you recall what kind of blocking scheme we had with fRan? It was zone, like Connelly, as I recall. The difference was "blocking the man in your zone" with Jim Bob and "pushing the player out of the zone using his own momentum" with Con.

Geez...memory fades with age, eh?
