🏈 "Why Bulldogs Should Be Favored Over Tide"

Bleacher Report isn't the best, but I like their opinion pieces.

1. Aaron Murray will light up the Tide secondary
2. "Gurshall" will bring offensive balance
3. Key injuries mounting for Alabama
4. Jarvis Jones and co. dance in Bama backfield
5. Striking while the iron is hot

My thoughts on these:
1. Murray throws a lot, and he has the best QB rating, but he also throws INTs (30 TDs/7 INTs). I think Bama is gonna have 1 or 2 big INTs at key moments. Our secondary has been living in the shadow of last year's secondary, and I think they really want to prove themselves on a big scale. Stopping Murray here will be huge. Manziel was better and he beat us; Murray is not as solid and all-around talented as Manziel.

2. Please. No RB duo is better than Lacy and Yeldon right now. And I feel pretty confident that our rushing defense will shut Marshall and Gurley down.

3. Obviously, Bell is out, Cooper is iffy and Black is fresh. But the receivers who will be in on Saturday are disciplined. Black isn't battle-tested but Cooper is, and I think he will come up big. The O-line will allow AJ to make some deep plays, and the receivers will step up big.

4. This is one of my biggest fears coming into this game. AJ has got to be protected and the pressure has to be minimized. Once we get rollin', we roll on but as we saw vs. LSU and A&M, momentum changers are huge in shaking the mentality of the players.

5. Yeah, yeah, Jawja is hot, we know. But look at their schedule. The wins they are riding high off of since getting crushed by SC are: Kentucky (who they barely beat), Florida (also a relatively close game), Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia Southern, and Georgia Tech. They had 2 major challenges this year (SC and FL) and only won one, and they barely won it. They got blown out in the other game. People say they have improved since then, but against what opponents?? Hell, before the SC loss, they beat Buffalo, Missouri, FAU, Vandy, and UT; and besides Vandy, they gave up quite a few points to those opponents. I wonder if they've forgotten how to play a truly good, equally talented team. And if they will have their guard down as a result. I mean, no one takes Bama for granted, but I wonder if UGA will come out a bit cocky?

Off work early, so I guess I'll spend some time here for a bit...

1) Murray with best QB rating. - We're looking at a 177 vs a 176. A point difference. But hey, facts are facts and Murray does have a one point edge on McCarron. What's lost in this stat is AJ sitting on the bench in the fourth quarter vs Aaron still trying to put a game away. Seriously, we've had Blake in the game nine times this season. While we've been sitting on three touchdown leads UGA has been struggling to put away teams in the fourth. Toss this stat out the window-No advantage

2) Gurshall brings offensive balance is the key point. IF they can run the ball. Only two teams have eclipsed the 100 yard mark on us this season.

Balance is the problem I have with this statement. They haven't had balance this season. More rushing attempts than passing attempts with more passing yards than rushing yards. There is a 1000 yard difference between the two.

Right now, there is a 56 yard difference between total yards between passing and rushing with Bama. My friends, that's balance.

Toss this point out the window—if they haven't had balance yet, they aren't going to get balance in one week.

3) Injuries. OK, UGA has two wide receivers out. Bama has two wide receivers out.

I can break this down even further but there's no need. For every key player they bring up, there's one that tips the scale the other direction.

Toss this stat out the window—No advantage.

4) Jarvis Jones and co. dance in Bama backfield Celebrating tackles made by their secondary when our running backs are in their back seven on defense? Georgia ranks 11th in the SEC in rushing defense. If they decide to cut their outside linebackers loose where is their run support?

Toss this thought out the window—wrong game plan.

5) Striking while the iron is hot. I'm sorry, but what defines hot? Shutting out Auburn? Beating Georgia Tech? Beating Georgia Southern? Beating Ole Miss? Losing to UF? (Oh shit, I went too far back didn't I?)

Don't toss this out the window, flush it. It stinks.

By no means do I believe there isn't a chance for Georgia to win this game. I do think the probabilities lie in Bama's favor.

I'm struck by one thing. Everything I read about how Georgia can win is based on "if we can do this." To me, it look as if people are trying to talk themselves into their ability to win this game. It's all based on things happening that haven't, but they're possible.

If we want to discuss how Alabama wins this game we only need to look at things that have happened.

Probabilities versus possibilities.

Murray not talking to me the media tells me what I want to know. They game already began.

That brought one of those "what did you just say" moments this week.

Richt was asked about Murray not talking to the media Monday and he said "he's got two big papers due this week."

OK, if you aren't thinking about what he's saying that seems like a very good move for Murray to make. If you aren't thinking.

On the other hand, if you are thinking about what he just said, something else comes up.

:bsflag:

He's been the starting quarterback for three years. He's in his junior year in school and he's waiting until the last week to buckle down and work on not one, but two major papers in what is essentially the last week of school? Championship game week?

Oh, that's time management for you!

Seriously. What kind of level headed student isn't working on major school assignments well before hand? Or, perhaps, and I'm just guessing here...the game plans against Auburn and Georgia Tech were that detailed he needed to spend his time in the playbook versus the school books?

A fool could see what's going on here. So, if you aren't as cognizant as a fool, I'll spell it out for you.

Aaron Murray doesn't want to answer questions about the big games he's played in and fell apart.

First of all it is Bleacher Report. I could write an article on there saying Vanderbilt is the best team in the nation and it would be on their site.

Second of all did I miss something? Why is Cooper iffy?

Hurt ankle against LSU, aggravated it against A&M. I haven't heard anything mentioned about his ankle since the Monday before Auburn.

It seems to me people in the media are trying to convince themselves that UGA can and will win. Coming up with all these stupid stats that like Terry pointed out can be thrown out the window purely based on facts. It took a last minute drive to beat LSU, but UGA is by no stretch of the imagination on the same level as LSU and it took their QB having the game of his life. We lost to aTm granted, but we played horrible that game, so UGA, their fans, and the media has to hope we play that bad for any of their stats to be true or to even be close to true.

UGA hasn't been able to keep teams from putting up stats and scoring points all year and all of a sudden they're going to against us? People like to point to the Florida game as how good UGA is, but they fail to mention that Florida turned the ball over 6 or 7 times and they still damn won the game. SC blew them out. Tech isn't very good period. So, if they're pointing to the Tech game as the one that proves UGa's greatness then they can look at our blowout win over Auburn and it equals it out.

Oh I totally agree about Bleacher Report, just thought it was an interesting conversation starter :)

I hope Cooper stays healthy. I get paranoid about injuries.

And I completely agree that the media is trying to convince us Georgia is better. Alabama is the better team but obviously the better team doesn't always win.

Hmm, I haven't heard anyone from the national media suggest Georgia is better, I think they have clearly suggested that Alabama is the better team statistically in offense and defense. I don't get wrapped up in what they say that often these days, their job is to create discussion and talking points.

There are two areas I see UGA having an advantage over us in this game.

If comparing running backs, I have to give Bama the nod. But, bringing in the fullback position? Georgia has a good one. We've really, REALLY missed Fowler as the year has progressed.

Great depth at linebacker at Georgia and some good talent across that line.
