I'm taking Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Washington.

I don't think Penn State or Wisconsin will have enough talent around the field to contend with Ohio State. I do not believe this will be Michigan's year, even with Shea Patterson.

The ACC is weak outside of Clemson. Miami will be decent, but will be a program like Georgia was under Richt, where they can win 9 or 10, but just can't get over the hump. No clue what Florida State will possess, even with all of the talent they have recruited.

The Pac-12 will be weak again, but Washington boasts some good experienced talent that will shine over the other schools. I think Oregon will actually be decent, but no other team outside of Washington has a legitimate shot in my eyes.

I don't think Oklahoma will have it at quarterback to propel them again. Oklahoma State lost some talent, but will still be decent and fight Oklahoma. Texas is still a work in process, and there is no one else. Big 12 misses out this year because they will have no quality wins or teams that truly look Playoff ready.

I think Auburn and Georgia will be decent. I think LSU is going to surprise some folks in a good way. In the end, I think our offense just puts up too many points with Tua and our defense is more than capable of keeping teams down below 17 points a game. Going to have to hit on all cylinders and both sides of the ball to beat us.

This is my 10,000 feet view on the football landscape, but the same ole schools should emerge this year because they are all loading up more talent than everyone else and Washington will just benefit from a weak conference.

My answer to that is kinda. I remember the team, but not the exact offense. My whole premise is that we know they will be decent defensively and that alone will keep them in ballgames against SE Louisiana, Miami, Louisiana Tech, Florida, Arkansas, Rice, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Their defense has played us pretty good too, so technically you can say their defense will give them a shot in every game just about. If their new quarterback can get some time to throw, that could be good for the offense and pull a few out most think they lose. It's a tough row to hoe, but it's not impossible. Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia, and us at home, and Miami in Texas. Their tough games are at home, so that gives them a little more of a chance, though I know you've shared the Saturday Night in Death Valley" fallacy.

Bama has to score 27 each game (not average) and if so this bunch can get to Atlanta. Beating the barn will be our most difficult regular season game followed by LSU/A&M.

Don't let them fool you. Saturday night in Baton Rouge is going to make any self-respectful Bama fan swallow hard. Now, that doesn't mean that I don't thoroughly enjoy talking some smack with these purple people. I for one love to explain to anyone within earshot, how Bama has a higher winning percentage at Death Valley than the Tigers.

But there's nothing about that place that doesn't make you respectful and that includes the many early visits I made during the Coach Bryant era. As I mentioned earlier just the dogfight we have had down there the last 3 times makes me think nothing will change this time.

Out of those 23 wins you can find two that are worth noting. Three, if you consider the '16 Ole Miss team and we all know what they were dealing with at that point. I'll be gracious and say three solid wins out of 24. But then there's that loss to Arkansas.

Two wins to speak of over the last five years. Hence the reason I say, "playing at night in Death Valley, and their winning percentage, isn't based in reality if you're propping them up to be all that at night.

I've have plenty of self respect and I'm not swallowing a damn thing about LSU on a Saturday night in Baton Rouge. It's a trumped up bragging point.

As evidenced...and I've only taken five years. It doesn't change that much as you continue to go back. They schedule their lesser opponents at night. Always have. The only reason they see Bama at night is due to CBS contractual stipulations. That's a 3:30 game if they aren't having their double header.

Close games with Bama? Sure. Bama playing close to the vest? No doubt. The same has been said countless times describing those games.

Do you recall the confidence level you were at in 2014 when Yeldon fumbled the ball on his own 8-yard line with 1:13 left in a 10-10 tie game and LSU recovered on our 5-yard line? Then getting the ball back with 50 seconds left, trailing 13-10, with no TOs and having to score from our 35 with Blake Sims at the controls.

Enough to make a Bama fan pucker up nice and tight.

It's interesting you bring that up because I addressed that very point after those games. I felt just like I did back when Coach Stallings was at the helm and we were looking at a deficit in the fourth quarters. I was comfortable then and I was comfortable when Bama faced those with Saban.

I wasn't puckering when the Tide was fighting their way back--even though they fell short--against OU a few years ago. Maybe it's my age. Maybe it's because of all I've seen throughout my life with Bama. I can't tell you which it may be. I do know I'm not freaking out during games or afterwards--win or loss. Hell. I barely carry a loss into Sunday any more.

I strongly suspect it's because I saw the crap happening inside of the athletic buildings under DuBose: up close and personally.

@50+yeartidefan, Even in a loss, do you find yourself thinking or saying to others, "it was a good ball game?" There's only been a couple I've not had that opinion--Ole Miss being one. All I can say to this day is that was a strange ball game.
