🏈 Who are you eager to see this year that plays for Bama?

You may disagree with how I look at this. So, I'll use an analogy.

Let's jump back to '90 when Emmitt came to town and ran all over Bama. Why weren't there any second half adjustments? Emmitt, like other schools, had Bama's number that day.

I don't believe, for one second, the breakdowns weren't addressed. I also believe, much like the QB, there were times some players just blinked out on defense.

Defense, from the staff on the sidelines (sans one) really doesn't concern me. I know what's returning in that front seven and have a good idea on the back (just not how they'll run that rotation: it'll be quite a few.) It's all about keeping them off the board, right? I believe they'll be better this fall and they were pretty sporty on scoring defense last season.
You use Emmit as and example, vs VANDY. I agree with the Emmit analogy, but Vandy bro? Looking at that play call get us multiple times tells me there was something wrong, be it LB or adjustments.

I am not bashing Wommack yet mind you. Just want to see visible adjustments in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball.

So, We have real good coaches on the staff. It's just that last year they had to make adjustments to the coaching staff halfway through and who was calling plays. I don't see that happening again this fall, but I'm more curious about the chemistry and getting the best out of the players.
I feel better with the OC, I will say that.

I have a feeling Grubb not coming last year was a lot more impactful than anyone expected or would admit. Pure speculation and I am sure more complicated than that. Could provide a long list of variables that contributed and coaching would be on my list.

Fair enough. Defense has experience. Lot of returning players. They should be able to establish their identify from the game 1. The issue I saw from them is that they took a while to adjust throughout the game, and when they do, man, it was beautiful thing to watch. they should get Offense plenty of opportunity to generate points on the board.

I never want to see Offense struggle for 3 quarters and still manage to score 10 points throughout the season again. I expect the offense to average over 30 points a game and expect lot of the game

You got the analogy but focused on the font.

So, so much of last season has to be taken into context with other things happening. It's a Venn Diagram with a half of a dozen circles.

Nope, more like drop out of that 4-2-5 here and there to keep that BS Honest.

Womack made adjustments prior to game and some in the first half, then Vandy through some plays in and hosed them all up. He even admitted to it.

@Kirk Van de Graaff I've said this a couple of times lately. I maintain the stance.

I see a lot nit-picking without taking in the whole picture. Yes, people can focus on the name "Vandy." Or, the nine win mark.

I'm looking at the fall and can't "judge" based on a few things here and there (with everything else around at the time.)

They ended at #10 in scoring D last season. That's a good foundation for this fall.

I wasn't happy with the rush defense. I've pointed to that, and the reason, in this thread. It was just under #50; barely.

The pass defense was #15. I remember that, specifically, because there is roughly 15 yards between #1 and where Bama finished.

Overall, top 20 defense in year one of a new scheme. That's a good foundation for the fall.

So, I see as ...

Look back at a series of plays against OU or look at the season as a whole—both on and off the field.

If Ty's head is a level as it should be—keeping emotions in check, making the right decisions—look out. He has every other tool you want or need.

Those linebackers...if they can do the same?

The concerning thing that lingers in my mind from last year is the team not being well prepared and ready on 3 separate occasions, all after big wins... Big win over UGA, next weekend Vandy eats the team alive and they seem mentally out of it. Big win at LSU and the next week OU drags them, they again seem mentally out of it. Long break after the win over rival auburn, but again... a depleted Michigan squad shows up throwing haymakers while Bama shows up sleepwalking. That is a trend that is hard to stow away, even though I could point to reasons as to why some of it happened. In the end, no excuse that it happened that bad, to that degree. Important thing though is that it is/was learned from. And if so, I'll accept it for what it was and be fine. We will find out this season if it was an anomaly aided by some 1st year under currents that were tough to see from the surface. Or, more concerning, if it is going to be a lingering concern with this staff. I tend to lean to the former based on multiple reasons, but until I see for sure on the field in 2025, doubts creep in the back corners of my mind.

As for the player(s) I want to see most... I'll go one on offense and one on defense. Isaiah Horton on offense. He's of the build and ability that DeBoer and Sheridan like... I think he will have a big season and find himself in a good spot (literally) with Williams and Bernard out there with him.

On defense, I'll go with Bray Hubbard... He was fun to watch last season when he got in there after the injury to Sabb. The light switch came on immediately for him... he played fast, instinctive, was disruptive and physical. It was impressive for a dude thrown into the fire. Now he's had that experience plus an entire offseason to prepare as a starter, and he'll be surrounded by some top end telent back there as well... Can't wait to see his growth and what I'd imagine will be a very long leash for him to run with.

Posing a question...

If the leader in the locker room can't handle the success of one week going into the next just as the success of one play and what follows ... how is one supposed to ask the locker room to do something differently?

We're not allowed to talk about the Vanderbilt game.

I wish someone was allowed to wipe it from my memory. I sat there laughing at their sissy little pregame Anchor Down tradition they did where they carried a little anchor out and "stabbed" it into the artificial turf at midfield before the game. Then had to sit there and watch them field rape our road whites for the next 3.5 hours while the students one section over taunted us.
