AU has a bad QB and an even worse defense.
Att Made INT % Yds Td Avg/g
5. John P. Wilson...... UA SO 6 169 102 5 60.4 1373 9 228.8
6. Brandon Cox......... AU JR 6 123 76 2 61.8 1017 5 169.5

All the credit in the world to JPW for being a first year starter and performing the way he is... but really, what you said about Cox is pretty much off.

Losing basically a whole group of WRs, one could notice just based off the stats that Auburn has not used the passing game as much as it should be. Cox has a pretty good % at 61.8, but not enough attempts to be noted as a leader in yards or TDs this year. Still by no means does this resemble a "bad qb."

I really dont understand your defense comment. Sure, we were spanked by Arkansas and failed to stop the run. Every dog has its day. At times this year, our defense has looked vulnerable. But... one could argue that scoring defense may be the most important defensive stat to look at correct?

In that dept., Auburn has been fantastic. First in the SEC in redzone defense. Fourth in total defense. Second in sacks. 3rd in the conference, 6th in the nation in scoring defense.

That does not resemble a horrible defense in the least bit.

Brandon Cox is the most overrated QB in the league. Every game I watch him play I hear the commentators talk about how good he is. BS!! He holds the ball way too long and when he throws on 2 or 3 step drops he hits his receivers in the ankles or one hops the ball to them. He will cause AU to go 8-4 or 9-3 this year.

Again, I disagree. I dont even know where to start on that reply. There are games in which Brandon was the very reason we were in it. Just seems like you hate hearing the praise. To keep it short, there is no way Brandon Cox is the reason AU goes 8-4 or 9-3.

Still waiting on why you note our defense is even worse.

So. Car. had 2 posessions in the second half and scored a TD on the first one and dropped a WIDE open TD on the second that would have sent the game into overtime. Yes, the same So. Car. that could only muster 24 points against Kentucky. USC racked up 350 yds of offense against AU.

Arkansas ran at will on what was heralded all day as a great defense and the only thing they have done all year is keep mistake prone Jemarcus Russell out of the end zone. Tammy Tuberville could've ran through the holes that ARK's O-Line was knocking around in that "vaunted" Auburn defense.

Furthermore, how many times has Brandon Cox been sacked this year. I would bet that he hasn't been sacked at all when he holds the ball for less than three seconds. Only problem with that is if he doesn't get at least 4 seconds to throw the ball he will throw behind the receiver or one hop it to him. He is terrible, but what other option do you have??

Thats the Bama fan in you talking.

Lets go over things you just choose not to look at:

1. Ask yourself the question, why would it seem that Cox is holding on to the ball longer this year than last? Is it because the veteran WRs last year had the timing down pat on the routes, whereas the new WRs can't seem to get open or the timing is off?

I'm going to go with a big yes.

2. Then you mention sacks. Its almost like your sole reason for Cox getting sacked is only Cox alone. More times than not, Cox does not hold onto the ball longer than usual. Our O-line has been off and on this season (last game we didn't even have our starting center...sound familiar?). Look at the run game against some of the better opponents....Its been off and on. You could even compare and contrast quarters of a game with that trend.

It seems when Cox has protection, he either makes a big play or the young WRs just aren't open. I'd rather take a coverage sack than an INT. When he doesn't have the protection, obviously.... you have a sack.

3. As I said about the defense, every dog has its day. Until the Arkansas game, Auburn had a top 3 Scoring defense in the nation.

Teams were always able to move the ball it seemed, but never found the endzone vs Auburn. It seems that Spurrier showed teams around the league how to actually put 6 on the board against us. That would be quick short passes, with misdirection/draws. I'm pretty sure after 2 games of watching our defense being exposed, it'll be fixed.

When you take off the crimson glasses and actually look at it from an objective standpoint I prove my point. My point is that Cox will not cause Auburn to lose 2-3 games...that he is a very capable qb who needs these young guys at WR to gel and that our defense is not by any means the weakest link on the team, opposed to what you say.

Who's the one wearing colored glasses???

Cox couldn't hit my wall with a football if he were sitting on my couch. The guy consistently throws behind the receivers and when YOU take off the orange and blue glasses YOU would be able to see this. 4 passes in the game against USC went either behind the receiver or hit the receiver in the ankle, and that's only the ones I kept up with. That's not including the second half.

He had a wide open guy running down the middle yesterday and he bounced it to him. Taylor had a touchdown and dropped it because he had to adjust to the terrible pass that was thrown by Cox.

He sucks.

If you don't think your defense is your biggest weakness then you are only kidding yourself. Cox at least has Kenny Irons and Brad Lester. Your defense is on the field by itself and when teams get 8 yds a CARRY on first down, your defense is pretty friggin' terrible. Especially when you are playing a team that everyone and their blind cousins knows are gonna run the ball. There were times yesterday that Aubarn had 5 sometimes 6 defensive lineman on the LOS and ARK would still get 8 yds right up the gut. If that is not a bad defense then I don't know what is.

These long posts are killing me to read.

I think Dave is right though honestly. Ive NEVER been impressed with Cox. I mean that nothing against a good Auburn team, but Cox made me laugh right out of the gate. Georgia Tech is what Im talkin about.

Ive noticed the throws behind the recieves and even the ones way over their head. You can't say "Well every QB does this". Ive seen it a number of times now with Cox which isn't like every QB.
