Hammer meet Nail! In HS, that’s what you do. Best athlete plays QB on offense. When I was in HS, my sophomore year, our QB was 5’10 maybe 170lbs but he was as hard nosed and athletic as you get. He played SS as well and led our team in tackles. He was our leading rusher too. He was a guard on the basketball team and our starting catcher and lead off man. I hit in the 2 spot behind him. When he got on base, I always took a pitch or two so he could swipe a base. I hit over .400 behind him and had a shit ton of RBIs.Guess I'm a little old school. I like a qb who can see the field, knows the d well enough that he can tell what they're doing most of the time, has pocket presence and most of all accuracy. As much as I can't stand him, a Peyton Manning type.
Seems to me that a lot of high schools pick the best athlete to be qb because of the offenses they run so we don't see a lot of the true old school pro style qb's anymore.
When the coaches moved me to QB the following year, I wasn’t the fastest, but I was still athletic in my own right. I had a pretty good eye for things so coach allowed me the ability to audible. When I got to BAMA as a walk on, Coach Curry’s staff knew what I brought. When Coach Stallings came in, Coach Moore asked me to run a 40 for a time. I told him that I wasn’t very fast, but I promised him that if he had a defensive guy chasing me, that I was A LOT faster. He thought I was joking! I wasn’t!!
