For me, it's people writing off Oklahoma as a CFP possibility. They didn't look like former OU teams. They still have a good chance of running the table in the Big 12. Texas, as normal, is getting a lot of love that isn't deserved.

There's talent in Norman but what they've put on the field hasn't looked good.

OU has to find a running game. It's a must. They have about a third of what they put up in the first two games last season, about half of what they put up in 2018.

My choice is Florida. Their offense did have a good game, no doubt. But here's the thing I'd point to; be cautious here.

Over the last ten years Florida is the first team to allow an opponent 400 yards passing, a QB completing 70% of his attempts with a 13 yards average per attempt...and win.

Stats show that's happened 17 times over the last decade. Those other 17 teams all lost.

I've never been terribly impressed with Todd Grantham as a defensive coordinator but those numbers are not indicative of his defenses in the past.

Amazing stat on Florida's defense.

Touching on Oklahoma. I was watching the Fox pre-game show before that game and Urban Meyer said something pretty interesting.

He said that all the highlights you see from OU are always offensive highlights. Went on to say that they have not had a first round defensive player drafted since the early 2000's. Like 2001-2002. He then posed the question, when was the last MNC that they won? Year 2000. Meyer said that defense wins championships. He ain't wrong!

On a side note, the last Big 12 team to win was Texas in 2005. Ol Cheese dick (Chizik), was the DC and they had a really good D. The 2009 defense that UT fielded against us in the Rose Bowl was very good. That is probably the last Big 12 team to put a good defense out on the field.

He is wrong on OU and their draft picks.

Kenneth Murray (LB) went in the first round this year. Gerald McCoy is another and if I recall he was a top five pick. 2009, 2010, somewhere around there.

Two parts:

1) LSU giving up only 9 yards rushing
2) Mississippi State passing for 623 yards

1) Mississippi State didn't need to run the ball
2) Everybody has questioned how good LSU would be this year. Their ranking before they played a single game was a sympathy ranking based on last year. You can't lose that many players and coaches and realistically expect to be in the top 10.

Is Mississippi State that good? They're better but not top 10 good. Expect them to lose soon.

Is last season the exception or the rule? I have not researched the stats for teams that won NC but my gut says last season is the exception.
Consider back in 2011 when we saw the domination of the Bama defense...they allowed about 185 yards per game.
2018, when Clemson had a pretty good defense, they were allowing 100 more per game on average. We saw what the LSU defense wasn't last season. Bama's last title in '17 had the Tide giving up 260 yards per game.

As I've been saying for several years now...the game has changed. We're in an offensive era where it's more important to have a star at quarterback than it is keeping opponents offenses shut down.

While true, the lack of a decent defense is going to lose you a lot of games. You can't stop them every time, but the game is still about stopping htem more than they stop you.

Mine was losing $100,000 of Bama bucks because Oklahoma lost. ;)

Seriously, I thought UGA being so stagnant on offense was very shocking. Let's face facts, Arkansas is not a top tiered team and UGA should have opened the can early and often but that didn't happen. Thankfully, for CKS and his OC, they had to play a second half.

McCoy in 2010 was first round. Other first rounders were Tommie Harris in 2004 and Andre Woolfolk in 2003. He was referring to Roy Williams in 2002. Prior to Williams it was Cedric Jones in 1996.
