💬 "what’s your most controversial southern food take?"

Lol! I can stand Mac and cheese sometimes, but not the nasty boxed shit
LIke the comment on Mayonnaise vs Duke's (or some other traditionally southern name brand) this has to be separated a bit, doesn't it?

I'm not a fan of the Mac and Cheese you get in a box that has the powdered cheese mixture. Although, Kraft's Deluxe Mac and Cheese...went down pretty easily as a side to a smoked ham we did last week. Huge difference in the two cheeses.

What we're talking about, though, is salt and/or pepper AFTER cooking as a means of flavoring...
So I'm not the only one who was thinking "it's before the cooking processes!" I suppose it's like using a salt and pepper rub on a turkey before you smoke it...not going to add a salty flavor or peppery flavor for that matter if it's done at the beginning...sure as hell not go to use a S&P rub after its done.

You guys eat some pretty nasty stuff.

I do eat banana sandwiches with either peanut butter or Mayonnaise but not both at the same time. That's disgusting.

I do like gravy on biscuits. On occasion I will eat chocolate gravy. Anyone do that? My Grandma got us grand kids (a long time ago:)) hooked on it. The wife still fixes chocolate gray but it is one of those you only do on occasion. I also go to Blue Plate in Hsv and occasionally get chocolate gravy. My son loves it.

I have my grandmother's recipe for chocolate gravy. During the depression there wasn't much in the way of sweets and this was a way to have something sweet with just staple items. Milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and a little flour.

My dad liked it growing up, so my mother learned to make it. We grew up with it, and now my kids love it too. Every year for Christmas we have biscuits with both tomato gravy and chocolate gravy. (not at the same time).

@TerryP .... come on man....boiled peanuts ....
now down in south Georgia... can get em green.... hard to find good green ones...
North Alabama....best i found...Raised a bunch of kids and grankids on em.....
Nobody mentioned great fried whole catfish.... Mississippi is place for that....although South Georgia is pretty comparable......
The thing about it....we all got our preferences....

@50+yeartidefan, understand, it's not the taste of boiled peanuts as much as it's the boiled peanut itself. I'm not a big fan of eating wings when I'm out unless they are a dry rub. While I love a sandwich that requires eating over the sink, I can't stand BBQ sauce all over my hands (and whatever else.) It's too messy of a meal for my enjoyment.

I like the flavor of a lot of the boiled peanuts I've tried. But, it's still a wet nut (phrasing) that I don't care for...'bout like they said, "it's a wet pea."

Wings have to be fried as in fried chicken. And then sauce on to spice em up. Spicy sauce
Sometimes I wonder how i have lived this long lol
