💬 "what’s your most controversial southern food take?"

@planomateo, if I'm completely honest I'd have to say born in Dallas, grew up and lived in Alabama, and moved to South Carolina. I seldom mention Texas, but will mention Dallas. (Yep, even with the '09 game against TX, as a fan I'm still having issues with that whole program.)
You see you just told me you from Alabama, but you are really from Texas! Living in South Carolina. Sorry I knew you were from Bama I just wrote it wrong. But you all are like my daughter , she was born in New Jersey. Live from April - August '74 the rest of the time has been in Alabama-Georgia-Alabama-Germany-Georgia-Alabama-Georgia(how I got my Georgia Preach Granddaughter)-Alabama. The only time she will rise her voice to me is when I call her a Yankee!! Again @TerryP sorry for miss wrote my post!

@TerryP I know that you from South Carolina, but have you heard of Livermush? I have friends from North Carolina around Valdese. I eat it one a year when I go on our trip to build on the church we help. My grandson love it.
@TerryP ...
Only damn liver is worth is putting on a hook in Guntersville lake and catching catfish....period....
And nuthin' good about it fer eatiing

My Favorite are Hot Steamed Royal Red Shrimp eaten right at Joe-Patti's in Pensacola.
None of those iced shrimp for me.

Stone ground grits with garlic, a garden ripened tomato and any type of eggs & biscuits.

Stone ground yellow cornmeal,

Fried Okra, Lemon Squash, or Green Tomatoes battered with 50% stone ground cornmeal & 50% pancake mix. Makes an amazing crust.

Steel cut Oatmeal

Beef Stew in a crockpot.

Steamed shrimp in wild rice & brown rice.

My yankee daughter-in-law swears that giblet gravey looks like vomit. She also hates wet mushy (boiled) peanuts, but surprisingly loves slimy cooked okra & peas and also grits. We are slowly but surly Southernizing her. I was born & raised in North Florida, but I have never heard of Chocolate gravey. Any one have the receipe?

I've got one stored away somewhere my grandmother used to use. To be honest, it's not all that different from making a cup of cocoa with milk and cocoa being you're two primary ingredients...vanilla is thrown in about like you would any cake, same with the sugar (but not as much) and a couple of dabs of butter. Flour for your gravy consistency...it's simple to make.

I'd bet you'll find every 'southern' chocolate gravy recipe online is going to have the same basic ingredients...a pinch of this or that may differ per recipe.

You and I have something in common. I was born and partially raised just outside of Dallas (Combine went to school for a bit in Duncanville) went to junior and senior years of high school and college in Alabama then moved back to Texas to get my masters then moved to Wyoming.

"jacked" ketchup (mixing ketchup and hot sauce) on fried chicken livers is mouth-watering.

A restaurant chain out of Jax., FL called Metro Diner serves fried chicken & waffle....You dip the chicken in a mix of maple syrup with a few drops of tobasco sauce (really, really good tasting) and big glob of strawberry butter for the waffle with or without maple syrup.
