Bama football of excellence is normal and it did not just start under Saban. Looking across multiple coaches and across multiple decades instead of a single year Bama is being Bama when they win their share of championships. Converting that success to a single season where they won championships, they likely only lost one game and won the SEC championship. Do you have to win a championship every year? No but you need to win your share and how you play matters. Do not get embarassed with how you compete against anyone.
I assume we would all consider these coaches successful. Each of these coaches teams year in and year out played with discipline, toughness and physicality.
National Championship Coaches at Alabama:
- Wallace Wade: 1925, 1926, 1930 (3 titles)
- Frank Thomas: 1934, 1941 (2 titles)
- Bear Bryant: 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979 (6 titles)
- Gene Stallings: 1992 (1 title)
- Nick Saban: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020 (6 titles at Alabama, plus 2003 at LSU)
Across 7+ decades Bama has played they won championships. There is no program that compares to Bama. Normal for Bama is not normal for everyone else.
