| CURRENT EVENTS What do you make of this? "...suffering & sacrifice from the Tuskegee syphilis study."

They had a disease for which a treatment became widely available, yet they weren't offered it so the study could continue to observe the progression of the disease. All of this without their consent. Indefensible on the part of both the health department and Tuskegee Institute.

In terms of "health equity" today, I've had opportunity to see UAB doctors and nurses in action over the last several years. Although there are distinct differences in health choices that can be drawn along economic lines, treatments are available to all.

This is why it is very hard to fully discount the government lying through their teeth about things. There are tons of other examples, but this is the big one since it directly impacted Americans on American soil and is within the lifetime of many (either the study itself or the much later Clinton apology that brought it back into the national limelight).

And when we talk about varying health results by race, we often want to talk about poverty and access while ignoring that black Americans, especially in the South, are aware of Tuskegee and have a mistrust of many medical treatments due to it. It makes it much easier to spread conspiracy theories and makes them much more believable, that is for all races.

I agree, it only takes one nefarious act to offset the trust that the tens of thousands (at least) positive and appropriate medical acts generate.

We've seen words like vaccine and recession "redefined" in the last year. Is this a redefinition of the word "sacrifice?" Whatever word we use here, it takes some balls to call what happened to those people their "sacrifice." It's poor judgement, at the very least.

From her position in the CDC ...

And people wonder why skepticism exists with what she's had to say on Covid. 🤷‍♂️
