What did you expect tonight?
Alabama has been increasingly unimpressive game by game, as the year has gone on. Was the trend going to stop today?
What did you expect would happen when your defense can't pressure the QB?
What did you expect to happen when your defense simply can't tackle?
What did you expect from an offense that can't put two succesful plays together most of the time without imploding? Obviously imploding means against "good" teams. Yeah, we're World-beaters against Duke, but I guess that doesn't really count for much.
Notes and Observations
I'll start with a question.
How does Bobby Williams still have a job on this staff as special teams coordinator? Or is this one of those,...well, Kirby is the DC, but Saban runs the defense...things? Should I be mad at Bobby, or be mad at someone else?
Why is it that our special teams continue to be pathetic? Not all aspects of them, but many. By in large, our special teams are a liability to us, mainly because of things like we witnessed tonight.
Let me put it to you this way. This should be telling.
My older son has never played tackle football. He's played several years of flag, but watches all the Bama games, and is a college football nut. He watches all the ESPN stuff and other games on t.v. He's only 12, but loves the game and studies it.
Just before the LSU fake punt, my son says to me that LSU is going to fake it. "When LSU (I can't remember the exact term he used) "rugbys' it, or sprint kicks it" they tend to fake it, and go to the left".
BAMA was lined up for a block, or atleast in a non-safe alignment.
LSU faked it and went for a first down.
Why can a 12-year old see this and not our coaches? Why would our coaches not line up in safe when playing against the one coach in college football who would have faked the punt? I mean, LES MILES!!!!! If anyone is going to try it, it's him. Why play into it? Are we really that stupid? Are our coaches that brain-dead?
Seriously....???
Why?
Anyone?
Our special teams continue to let us down because of stupidity.
How bout that 2-point conversion? I love how right before the ball is snapped, Gary Danielson says that LSU sprints right when they want 2. Apparently everyone in America knows this but our staff.
What about that offense line huh! Hell yeah! Fewer and fewer rushing yards per game, and more and more sacks. Yeah, we hold our own against San Jose State, and I guess that's what matters.
Quick screen left has to go!!!! Someone needs to tell McElwaine now to get rid of that sh*t right now. That play has disaster written all over it. The quick screen to the right (to Julio) seems to work well enough with the timing, but the bubble left is going to absolutely bury us in a game. It's going to go for a pick-6 at the most inopportune time possible sooner or later.
That play takes entirely too long to develope. No bubble screen should have the QB dropping back when he's already in shotgun formation and McElroy does it EVERY SINGLE TIME. He's bobbles snaps on more than one occasion too, and thrown it out there. I'm telling you! That play has disaster written all over it.
Someone should give Dre the nickname "Neon Deon", cause that joker can't tackle sh**. Deon Sanders was legendary for his ability to cover receivers and return kicks, but he wouldn't tackle anyone to save his life. He wasn't hearing it. I'm not even going to bring up the blown coverages that occur EVERY SINGLE GAME HE PLAYS.
The defense continues to play undisciplined. The defense of the option tonight is just another example of that. We stopped it a couple of times, but for the most part, it was horrible. One one play BAMA had 3 defenders on the QB. No one on the pitch man. On another play, Barron had the QB sealed and forcing him to pitch. I believe it was Lester (might have been Mosely) who came flying in to assist on the QB.........leaving a wide open pitch man.
WOW! I guess if our plan was to leave the pitch man wide open all night long, it worked to perfection.
I'm just over it. I really am. I know we're young on defense, but I've just had it with this team this year. They've gotten worse every week and coming off a bye this week, but got embarressed by an LSU team that couldn't score points against Hoover if their lives depended on it. It's rediculous. They are undisciplined, can't tackle, and the offense was a paper tiger this year.
I guess I'm just frustrated at seeing the same thing week in, week out.
