📝 Watch highlights of Jalen Hurts, Alabama's new quarterback commit

Jalen Hurts, four-star quarterback from Channelview High School in Texas, commits to Alabama.

"At Alabama, I loved what Coach Saban had in store for his players. Not only do they have a great football program, but academically they do a great job. Their focus is to give you the tools to be a successful man in life, and that is my main goal.

"I absolutely love what Alabama has in store for their students and athletes. They have lots of history and everlasting tradition. I feel this was the best decision for me, as I am a boy trying to become a man.

"I am very comfortable with my decision. I am very blessed to be in my situation. I will be ready to compete as such a great university when that time comes. But as for now I can say Roll Tide!"

247's Barton Simmons take:

"I noted in my other note yesterday that I like Hurts' mentality. His all-business approach. I think that's big. But there's a lot of other things to like about Hurts. For one, he's a big strong kid. He's probably about 6-2.5, he's thick and strong, will be able to take a pounding but he's also really athletic obviously. Here's the thing though and I noticed in the other thread that there's maybe some doubts about the take by Alabama? Let me say this, if you're comparing Hurts to Jawon Pass, there is no question whatsover that Hurts is the more advanced passer at this stage. It's not even close. Pass may have more upside because he isn't very polished as a passer and he is bigger and he's athletic but Hurts is plenty big enough and may be even more athletic. I really think HUrts will emerge as one of the better QBs in this class and he was one of my favorite QBs on Saturday. Hurts has a really high release, he has a great base inside the pocket and he he made a couple of the day's more impressive throws on the run yesterday."

On Sunday, they will add a defense to the equation and force the QBs to go through progressions, make the correct reads and beat defenders. With a good day on Sunday (the more important day of the two), I think Hurts should get a finals invite.

Just talked with the camp director out here at the Elite 11. They had wanted him to commit on their life stream today but Jalen didn't want to. He didn't know want the extra attention. In fact he asked them to tweet the commitment for him.

Dude is all about ball. If you look at the guys that have been successful at Bama. They're guys like Amari Cooper and TJ Yeldon who are all business and I think hurts has that same mentality. Don't expect a circus around his recruitment. He's just gonna be working. Think he's gonna be a guy with a chance to emerge this week because he's really talented.

Good take without a doubt. He sort of came out of nowhere when looking at the 247 board. It seemed to me that we were looking at Pass first and then the Barrett kid that committed to the Barn. I actually saw Pass on Monday evening of Saban's camp for 8-14 year olds. Impressive on the hoof! If they took Hurts without waiting on a decision from Pass, then I'm good!
