🏈 Was this a quality win?

Are we that good or is Ar-Kansas that bad? After all, BB went to Arkansas to "beat" Alabama. I know we are getting better week by week and we do have exceptional talent and we have an excellent coaching staff. The eye test tells me that F$U is better than us and so is Oregon, but my heart tells me that the only team that can beat us is us. This was THE best, complete game we have played as a team as yet and we are only getting better, but there are still tough games to come. Tinnersee just beat a good South Carolina team, LSU slipped up and let a inferior team in Ole Piss beat them and a tigger is dangerous when licking it's wounds. Allbran has proved that they are no pushover this year, as I thought they would be. One thing is for sure and for certain, the last half of the season will be more exciting than the first. Can we go unscathed? We shall see!

It's an SEC team in our division no less...if you don't think it was a good win, imagine how we'd be feeling today with a loss (see Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas A&M). Also I can't recall in my nearly 40 years of watching Alabama seeing a game with no penalties, no sacks allowed, no turnovers, and no points allowed.

I think it's a great win more mentally than anything. The boys made little to none mistakes and for the first time this year played 4 quarters on both sides if the ball. So in my book I consider it a great thing. Keep gelling and improving week to week is about all you can ask for.

I don't think "are we that good, or are they that bad" is the theme for this game. Kentucky is that bad. Colorado State is that bad. I think the most important part of this game was we played a complete game from whistle to whistle. We didn't see the miscues from the oline. We didn't have a bunch of stalled drives while we looked like we were sleep walking. We scored early, we scored often, and we got after the football.

Is Arkansas that bad? Probably. But more importantly, we showed tonight that we can be that good for an entire game.

This.

A shutout always means you played well, but Arky isn't exactly Oregon either. Whatever it is, we're getting better week by week, have a whole bunch of talent and have the best coaching staff in the country.

I like our chances...just gotta keep everyone focused on the task at hand.

A good quality win in my book where whoever was on the field did what they were supposed to do. I was very proud of Henry and his 80 yard scamper although it looked like CNS threw his arms up in a manner that suggested he "wished we hadn't done that".

He did, I remember him doing the same thing when Lacy broke off a big one against Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl that year at the end of the game. He hates running up the score but what do you do? A Freshman about to break off a 80+ yarder, you cant tell him to just run outta bounds.

How cool was it to see how excited Saban got for Cyrus Jones' pick tho? That was great, haven't seen him jump up on a players back like that since he did the chest bump with Ingram.

Arkansas is a bad team, our second string guys looked better than their first string. The only two players on offense that I saw from Arkansas that didn't give up was the RB and QB. Bielema walked into a buzz saw going to Arkansas and mouthing off like he did. That said, Bama played a complete game, Arkansas style fits right in to Alabama's strengths, and thats a recipe for a arse whipping. You give any Coach Saban teams time to audible or send in reliefs and your doomed. Thats why UT wont have a chance this weekend either. The only team out there that would give us fits on a regular schedule would be FSU and Oregon. Give Coach Saban time to prepare for you and its a different story. I like our chances. The only thing that will stop this Machine is the Machine itself, injuries or Armageddon. I am enjoying watching this team gel. Roll Tide

I picked Bama to win 58-3 with a "maybe" on Arkansas getting a field goal. Arkansas has no passing game and a pretty weak running game. A defense as good as Alabama has should shut them out. I would call this a game where Bama "took care of business" as expected.

I was listening to one analyst (can't remember who) who noted in Arkansas having given up 52 points to both SC and Bama, the nature of the two games were drastically different. They said Arky up and quit during the SC game, and were never really on fire to begin with; however, they indicated the hogs were far more motivated and physical in the Bama game. I think the D did tire at the end, but they played hard most of the game that was futile from mid 2Q on. Although they were overwhelmed, they played physical the whole time.

RTR,

Tim

I see what your saying, and I guess my term of giving up was a little harsh, The RB for Arkansas is a hoss, to me he gave off the never quit mentality more so than the rest of the team. The QB didnt seem to give up either. Solid follow up my friend, it just looked to me that they didnt have it in them once Bama got up on them in the first.

I mean come on. Oregon gave up 557 yards in the air alone against a pathetic Mike Leach team.

I agree that's a lot of yards passing. Of course WSU had 2 yards rushing for the game and they threw the ball 89 times setting an NCAA record.

Note: The obvious reason they kept their starters in against the Oregon's 3rd and 4th teams in the fourth quarter were simply to break this NCAA record. Once the game was clearly out of reach a good coach that cares about his team and player development would have gone to his backups and gotten them some experience and playing time. It is what it is, congrats to WSU for throwing so many times, I hope they are proud of the record and value it for what it was.

In a few words you've said a lot here.

Just to touch on one subject with Leach. In the "We want Bama" thread you made a comment about Leach to which I responded along the lines of his offense isn't rocket science. At that time, even with Leach coaching in the PAC12 now, I wondered how much exposure you had to his coaching style. After reading this response I'm inclined to believe it isn't a lot.

Whether his team was up by 24 or down by 24 Leach has always been one to toss the ball around continuously. He's been coaching at this level for almost a decade and a half and he's never been one to pull his starting QB—blowout or getting blown out. Ask anyone in the Big12 and they'll tell you the same thing.

For him to pull his starters in that game? It would be as close to quitting on the game as one could get. When one considers they were only down by 24 at the end of the third, had scored 17 in the second against the regular rotation of the Ducks, a good coach would continue to try to score.

On a personal note: I'm no different from you in that I'm a fan of my school. One area I do find difference is this story—specifically Aliotti calling Leach "low class" following the game in a conversation about that record.

If we had a coach stating things like that to the press I not only would be the first on the "you need to shut the hell up" bus, I'd be fueling it.

I do appreciate Aliotti making a statement that is comments were out of place and him apologizing for them.

You are right, I haven't seen a lot of Leach coached teams. Just learning what type of coach he is. It is obvious that he's going to throw the ball a lot. Up or down 24 wasn't the issue for me. But down 62-24 (38 points, or 5/6 scores) with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter, it's time develop players and the team, not go for some meaningless NCAA record. That means WSU has to score a touchdown and two point conversion about ever 2 1/2 minutes, including Oregon's time of possession, while holding Oregon scoreless for WSU to win the game. Seriously, this is a very large stretch of the imagination for him to think WSU had a chance at that point.
