from CFN. Pretty good read, sounds like we may have to make VT pass in this game. Their QB sounds like he is a dual QB but better at the run and their OL may be the weak link, hopefully our DL can get some pressure on him but our LB's play honest so that he doesn't break long runs to hurt us if we can't contain him in the backfield.

I tend to get lost in match-ups before the season starts but so far I haven't started going down that road looking at the teams we are facing. A little here and there, but nothing in depth.

I mention that for this reason.

When I started looking over a few of the teams we face in '09 Va. Tech was one, and the thing that jumped out at me was what you mentioned, their passing game (or lack of.)

Taylor's pass attempts to interceptions ratio was worse than LSU's, another team that had all the skill sets that Va. Tech brings next year. You really want to put this in perspective? Alabama had almost twice as many passing touchdowns last year than the Hokies did in '08.

They are going to run the ball. We are going to have a hell of a run defense.

We are going to run the ball. They should have a good run defense.

Then it falls down to this...

McElroy vs Taylor.

I think you can see where I'm headed...

Yep, if Tyrod Taylor can run against 'Bama's D or their 1000 yd. rusher or their hotshot sophomore can run against 'Bama's D, we have problems.

If not, the game belongs to 'Bama.

I highly doubt that T. Taylor will develop his passing game against Alabama. He will get some pressure due to his somewhat poor offensive line.

QB's who haven't displayed a competence for accurate passing are not going to get it right in a game of this magnitude, this early in the season, facing what may be the best D in the nation.

I agree with you Terry, it's going to be which QB can make some plays and protect the ball and not make stupid passes. If we can est. a runninggame behind this basically new OL and bgive Greg sometime to find a reciever, and keep VT defense honest, Bama can take this game. Also the DL is going to have to penetrate and stop the run.

I am not even going to attempt to figure out Saban's gameplan. Last year, in the first 8 or 9 games, I felt like I saw 8 or 9 different teams. I think I was numb until about the 5th week. We were unpredictable and that translated into kicking the snot out of a bunch of good football teams. It was beautiful. I hope this year is more of the same. We'll see soon enough!!!

Considering the differences we saw in the first half compared to the second that might be better put 16-18 different teams.
