Best of luck to him but I just don't know about this move now. If true, it helps with Terry's math / numbers problem he mentioned in an earlier thread.

I don't think anything can help with my math problems... :icon_eek:

Vinnie was one of the guys I was referring to when I mentioned expecting a few more to declare.

A great kid and I hope he fulfills all of his dreams. Obviously I think I'm with the majority here and believes he needs more time at Alabama. Clinton-Dix I can understand, and even he needed more time in my eyes, but Vinnie is nowhere near where I would want to see a draftable safety. I hope I'm wrong and will back his play. Best of luck.

I think he'll be a great NFL player eventually but this is a horrible decision. I know the injury prolly scared him but he really could have helped himself in the draft with a great year and a year removed from the ACL.

Why on earth is he declaring? He's still recovering from an ACL, I don't believe he has his degree, and there is a BIG possibility that he might not even get drafted. I don't get this move at all. Best of luck to him, but scratching my head on this one.

Defense takes yet another hit due to the NFL :chargrined:

Lester didn't get drafted last year and I would assume (really nothing but my gut to support this assumption) that Lester has/had better measurables than VS and had much more experience. I don't see Vinnie getting the call on draft day, but I suspect he'll have a few offers to try out for teams. I hope he has a great future, though this decision is an enigma to me...

He graduates this spring.

He, nor his father, believe he is developed to his highest level in college ball. The reasoning is that development can happen in the league during his first few years.

There's more to this story that just development and Brandon touched on it earlier mentioning "an emotional decision."

One point to consider if you're looking for answers lies with the emergence of Landon Collins in the same safety position. Ask yourself this question. Which of these two players brings more to the field, Landon or Vinnie? Take your answer and put it in this context. Do you believe Vinnie would get more snaps than Landon? Do you think equal reps would mean he could improve his stock?

Injury aside, this reminds me a little of Coffee's decision to go pro with Ingram pushing and Trent in the wings.

No I do not believe Vinnie would get more snaps, but you'd have to think there would be defensive packages with them on the field the same time with Sunseri playing more up to the LOS like he did late in the A&M. I know its because I'm not in his shoes, but what does declaring for the draft fix or make it an "emotional" decision. His family is not broke (as far as we know), he's not highly rated at his position whatsoever, and he's going to be a starter and/or a huge contributor next year on a very inexperienced defense. Sorry, but if his goal is to play in the league one day, wouldn't it be smarter to comeback for your senior and improve your stock rather than forgoing your senior year while you're still nursing a torn ACL?

A couple of notes here:

  • Vinnie didn't like playing that third safety in 2012. Was it because he was targeted, successfully, so often? Possibly. It did lead to some of the discontent he's been feeling.
  • Emotional decision: More on that after the draft.
  • Not highly rated at his position? One, no one considered him leaving early so he wouldn't have been on draft boards/mock drafts. Two, the chances of him being first team All-SEC in the preseason were high.
