Utah deserves no lower than a #3 ranking... possibly #2 depending on the outcome of the UF/OU game. They really surprised me tonight, especially their QB play. I knew Smitty being out would hurt us, and it did, but then losing Johnson was a killer. Utah really turned up the heat and was able to exploit the Line after that.
Congratulation as well.
I say they must end up at #3. No way, no how #2. #3 because they deserve better than #4, but don't deserve #2. The BCS NC match up is what it is because they are the best two teams. Because the #2 loses to a #1 does not mean that the #3 could have done any better. It means that they are indeed #2.
Again, congrats to the Utes.
No, no, a thousand times no. They should have already been ranked #1. I completely disagree that the BCS NC matchup is, or should be, between the two best teams. The World Series isn't between the two best teams, is it? And we don't want it that way, do we? If it was, in 1993, the Braves and Giants would have played each other in the World Series. The Giants clearly had the second best team in all of baseball with 103 wins, only one game worse than the Braves' 104, and the Giants weren't even in the playoffs.
This is as close to winning the NC on the field as you can get. Take all the legitimate contenders to the NC: Alabama, Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Penn State, Ohio State. Ohio State loses to Penn State and USC...Penn State and USC advance. Penn State loses to USC...USC advances. USC loses to Oregon State...Oregon State advances. Oklahoma loses to Texas...Texas advances. Texas loses to Texas Tech...Texas Tech advances. Florida and Texas Tech lose to Ole Miss...Ole Miss advances. Ole Miss loses to Alabama...Alabama advances. Oregon State and Alabama lose to Utah...Utah advances. They are the only team left standing. They win the NC. No other team deserves it.
It might be a different story if we had three perfect teams...like Okla, USC, and Alabama Poly. But we don't. We only have one. Every other contending team lost to another one in a chain that only leaves one team standing...Utah. I know that's not the way the BCS operates, but we all know that, even though it may be better than the old days, it's still screwed up.
Utah is the only team that deserves to call themselves the NC. In my opinion, it isn't even up for debate.
