I haven’t read through the thread to see if this has been mentioned, but do we know when this is likely to take effect? I see 2025 being when the media rights expire, but I’d be surprised if they stuck around that long…

Be 5 years....probably right....strike while iron is hot...
....But...

lot of teams have lot of contracts with other non-big 12 teams for games...

......and ......
Things have to be rescheduled and games bought out....

all doable.....but....

has to be worked out

If TX and/or OK aren't accepted by the SEC, they'll still be able to go back to the Big12. They'll just be late in sending in their media rights acceptance. It should be pointed out that the media rights haven't been negotiated yet, so confirming the media rights is a bit pointless.

Regarding Big 12 media rights:

"Their TV contracts with ESPN and Fox contain language that allows the Big 12 networks to reduce payouts if there is a loss of membership.

"When you're losing two of the most visible programs, the network has the right to come and say, 'We're going to reduce the rights by X.'" one longtime, high-profile administrator said.

That means the Big 12 deal could drop from $37 million in annual revenue to as low as $9 million per school. Considering there aren't two schools available that come close to replacing the value of Texas and Oklahoma, the Big 12 is in troubled waters to say the least."

They said they won't renew their deal with the Big12.. How are you thinking that would work out?
They won't renew their media rights now/today. They can't renew their rights if they plan on moving. If the move falls apart, the Big12 would take them back. The rights aren't due today. If the Big12 added Whatsamatter U in September, WU would sign their media rights in September. How could WU sign their media rights in September and not TX or OU? It's a moot point since all signs are pointing to TX and OU leaving. Right now they (TX, OU, SEC Office, other SEC members) are dotting the Is and crossing the Ts.

"If they plan?"

Was listening to ESPNU on Sirius earlier this morning and they had Heather Dumba$$ (Dinich) on. Being the B1G homer she is, she said she's hearing Texas and OU could "shop" their move to other conferences to get the best deal. When she was pressed by the host a bit, she backed off just a little saying that the SEC is the leading candidate, but if she were other conference heads, she'd be calling and asking what it would take to land them. Didn't they report that Sankey had already been talking with them for weeks on this? Ah speculation, what would these mediot "experts" do without it???

What a coup it would be if the Big 10 (+ 4) were to steal away Texas and Chokelahoma when all reports are that they are going to the SEC.

It would be even better for the ACC if they could somehow lure those 2 away. It would give that conference much more legitimacy in football, especially if they could finally get the Domers too.
