šŸˆ UPDATE: Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners unanimously accept invitation to SEC

I wonder how it will end with the Longhorn Network. They had a contract well in to the future. ESPN will have to cut a lot of folks if UT walks away from that.

Don’t UT and OK fans realize that their schedule to a championship just had world’s largest roadblocks out in front of it? Hell, I’d say add another 2 losses at least to UT each year and another 1 for OK. On average. I wouldn’t be happy as a fan.

I think this is all being pursued through the lens of playoff expansion. A two-loss SEC team that doesn’t win its division will be in the playoff discussion, whereas one loss will eliminate teams from lesser conferences.

Sooner fans remind me of Florida fans, not too terribly bad. Texas fans are the worst parts of Ole Miss and Georgia fans, which ain't a good combo.
Ole Miss, eh? As in "look at our Game Day Saturdays in the Grove" and "look at the night life in Austin?" Or, is that analogy more about "the refs stole another one?"

I see so much anxiety coming from folks that I can't quite get a handle on. As example, I'm seeing "look at what Texas did to the Big12." (Interesting how most leave out OU considering those two schools had the lions share of the revenue.) I get that and like everyone else, witnessed the destruction.

BUT, TX won't hold the same power in the SEC. Their stranglehold over the Big12 was largely due to the LHN; something I think we'll see folded into the SECN.

"But, the Texas arrogance! They'll whine their way into ..." Honestly, do you think Georgia is going to let TX come in and bully their way through conference decisions? Or Florida? Or any of the "have's" in the SEC as it current stands? I don't. While TX has it's power it's not enough to come in to this conference and just push people/administrators/schools around to their bidding.

"The Texas endowment." And how does that translate to success in athletics? Are they not on the academic side?

A&M fans having a chit fit. I don't get that, at all. They have a leg up now on TX. If the balance of power changes in that state it's because A&M let it slip through their grasp: another case of blaming failure on someone else.

In 2018 Texas may have grabbed an at large bid. The last two years this wouldn't help at all: sans monetary payouts to the conference. Going back even farther I can't recall a year in the last decade, other than '18, they would have sniffed a playoff berth.

If last year was the first 12-team playoff year (with OU and UT in the SEC), there would be 5 SEC teams in the playoff (1-Alabama, 5-Texas A&M, 6-Oklahoma, 7-Florida, 9-Georgia). Iowa State and Florida both had 3 losses. Georgia and Oklahoma both had 2 losses.

This tells me 1. 12 teams is too many, and 2. The SEC will dominate playoff slots in the future.

IMO, the 12-team playoff is being pushed so that they ā€œsettleā€ on 6 or 8 teams.

The former. They overinflate their self worth like the Rebels do, which is ok, but then flaunt it a manner that grates. Like when you see a lady in public with a glittery hat that says SEXY in big letters. She's always anything but, sexy.

Agree with this. They'll never admit it, but the Horns won't strong arm Sankey (or the other AD's). I will say, when the SECCG eventually alternates to Jerry World some, I will enjoy seeing the meltdown from the UGA fans. And of course UT will tout it as a victory, when in truth, it isn't (especially since they probably won't be playing in it).

I get A&M being bummed, but they are coming off looking worse and worse by the day. I don't think Ross Bjork is the best guy to have in power in situations like this for the Aggies. Not sure what situation suits Bjork well honestly, but it ain't this one.

One last negative about UT and OU joining up... their bands. People may laugh and say, what does it matter? I guess it doesn't if you don't mind bands that play non-stop on loop for 4 hours.

If they have a true WEST division and a true EAST division, I have NP with alternating Atlanta and Dallas for the CG. They already have a designated home team each year to determine jersey color.

Oh damn. Best point brought up in this whole conversation. Gotta throw that at Josh Pate.

Orange, and that crap over and over and over...'nother reason not to like 'em.

True...but...being in SEC will help in recruiting....so maybe not immediately....but down the road....
And missouri won SEC east their first couple of years...i think

Put Texas in the West (play A&M every year) and OU in the East (Texas will be their perm matchup each year). Question is do you add a 10th conference game or stick with 9. Might better stick with just 9 and try and help the lesser teams get to 6 wins with some OOC that can be beaten.
Shoot...go to 10 conference games.++..2 power 5 ....
Lets make this fun....
Play a G5 in spring game....
All P5 regular season...

i gotta find the fountain of youth so I can be around to enjoy all this.....

See, I don't want to entertain that. They called us, not the other way around. We shouldn't have to bend to their location or care about their feelings. Southeastern Conference. Florida/Alabama/Georgia shouldn't have to go all the way to Texas that last game.

As long as you add one to the West and the other to the East it really shouldn't be that big of deal and we get 9 conference games. If Texas is in the West then I believe AU will get hurt worse year after year and they have a real chance to finish behind UA/LSU/A&M, and Texas. The East would still be UGA then OU with UF behind those two.

You're just adding a big game each year to our schedule (Bama) and that makes it more difficult to win it all.

Texas has one 10 win season in these past 10 years and their win over UGA is pretty much the high point.
