🏈 Update: Kiffin to FAU (Bama OC through playoffs)

If / when Kiffin leaves, I hope it is not to lswho. Those dogs don't need to get any better. Orgeron nor the team would admit that Bama shut them down, and I lost what scrap of respect I might have had for them. Seems that when Kiffin is ready to step up, he'll head west. Just my opinion.

Roll Tide everyone!

Agree. I think Houston would be a perfect spot to get the luster back. Cupboard's not bare and expectations will be manageable. Do a good job and he'll be able to name his next job.

I agree. Any OC job would be a step down from being OC at Bama. I dont see him leaving for anything but a HC job. I don't see him ever going back to UT after the bad blood. USC maybe as...its USC and ........friends..house...beach....and USC always recruits well. But not UT, Houston Maybe.....Oregon certainly. But to leave bama job for another OC job would be nuts. If Coach O can get a HC job at a top 10 school....so should Kiffen.

1.And why would Sark leave for LSU when he will have just been offered the OC job at Bama?
2. Why do you think Sark was brought in to begin with?
3. Saban knew Kiffin would likely get a head coaching offer this off-season. Kiffin knows it as well.

As an aside, it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Kiffin end up as HC at Oregon.
1. Did he not also have a previous "working relationship with Orgeon?
2. was the LSU opportunity present during the previous off season?
3. While we as Bama fans may see working for CNS at Alabama as the greatest coaching job ever, maybe not all in that actual field see it the same.
I'm not saying that this is even probable ( see the word 'hypothetical' in my previous post) but to think it's not even possible is ignorant to the point of asinine.

I am puzzled by the speculation, near expectation, that Lane Kiffin will leave Alabama for LSU.

One, Kiffin is the offensive coordinator for the best team in the country with a freshman phenomenon at quarterback who will get better as his game matures. Why would Kiffin leave what could be a historic run of success with Nick Saban and Jalen Hurts for a lesser job with a lesser coach, lesser talent and likely only a small bump in pay?

Second, why would Kiffin go work for the guy he hired not once but twice, and who replaced him at USC?

Coaches have egos and I’d be willing to bet that Kiffin’s is as big as they come. I’d also be willing to bet even more that Kiffin takes this speculation of him working for Orgeron as an insult given the fact some (me) believe LSU settled on “Coach O” when they could have landed numerous better coaches, including Kiffin.

The LSU offensive coordinator job would be a step down for Kiffin. The only way I see him leaving Alabama is to become a head coach again, which now doesn’t seem likely this offseason.

The more surprising discussion in all of this is that many fans and media feel as though the transition from Kiffin to current Alabama “offensive analyst” Steve Sarkisian as offensive coordinator would be a seamless one for Alabama if it needed to do so.

Let’s not forget that Sarkisian was fired from USC because of a drinking problem. I’m not saying he isn’t well enough to coach, but none of us know how he would handle the pressure of Nick Saban grilling him on the sideline and the scrutiny that comes from calling plays for the Crimson Tide.

More important, we don’t know if Sarkisian would have the same success. Kiffin’s hire was controversial. Two appearances in the College Football Playoff, one national championship and the development of quarterbacks Jake Coker, Blake Sims and Hurts has erased any doubts about his ability. In hindsight, an argument could be made that Saban needed Kiffin almost as much as Kiffin needed Saban.

If Kiffin decides to leave, Alabama fans shouldn’t fool themselves into thinking the transition will necessarily be as smooth as the one on defense from Kirby Smart ti Jeremy Pruitt. Kiffin will be incredibly hard to replace.

I don’t see Kiffin leaving. Not unless Oregon gives him a call to become its coach.

Touchy much, bro? Where in my post did I say it was not even possible? I simply posed alternate questions.

Now, back to the point. Guys like Sark and Kiffin had perception issues that needed to be cleaned up. However, the idea of coming to Alabama was/is not just to clean up those perception issues but ALSO to undergo Saban mentoring and learn his process. Saban, perhaps you'll agree, is widely regarded as one of the best coaches, if not the best coach in college football, with one of the best "processes," if not the best process. To you point #3, it's no secret that he is also demanding. This is why it stands to reason, that someone like Kiffin with three years of Saban under his belt has not only cleaned up the perception issues significantly, but IF he has grown tired of Mr. Saban's extreme expectations, would be more likely to move on than say a similar person who just came on board three months ago - such as Coach Sark.

Does this means that it's "not even possible" for Sark to leave? Of course not. But, of course, I never said that to begin with.

Apparently, this writer hasn't seen the inside of Orgeron's binders.

Saban has won championships with McElwain, Nussmeir, and now Kiffin. I don't think it's all that complicated.

As always, Saban ball is about 2 things; Dominant defense and good OL play. The rest falls into a place.

Not to mention the recruiting talent on offense has caught up with the defense... As much and probably more skill and ability as anyone in the country. A monkey could pick plays off a play sheet and win 10 games at Alabama. And if the defense is like it is this year, someone capable of just not f*cking up can win 12. Winning 14-15 you have to do a few things right... Hopefully Kiffin can get it done again. And I have confidence that Sark or whoever the next guy is can be as competent as the last 3, which is good enough to win championships under Saban.

The only reason Kiffin to LSU is a story is because the media is trying to make it one. Yes, Orgeron and Kiffin are friends. But after working with Saban for three years, Kiffin can use that experience to promote himself for a HC job. It makes no sense to make a lateral move for a year at this point (LSU won't win any championships in Orgeron's first year). Kiffin is on top of the OC world, time to move up. Houston and Oregon are possibles. More will open up in the next week or so. I'm surprised ND hasn't pulled the trigger yet.
