As far as Bama goes, I agree with Optimus. Our focus needs to be on Kentucky this week.
As for the media love affair with USC - they're THE TEAM in the second largest media market in the country. Most "experts" thought USC was head and shoulders above everyone else coming into this season. After all, "USC just has sooooo much more talent than anyone else." How many times did you hear that one until last Thursday?
No doubt that USC has a lot of talent. Take Sanchez. He's a decent QB, but not nearly as impressive as half a dozen other QBs in the country. And so it goes, position by position - it is assumed by the lug-nut brains in the sports media that USC has the obsolute best player in the country at every position.
And, why not? If you're a sports writer and you at least pretend to believe the USC hype of the past several years, then your job gets really easy. All you have to do is declare USC #1, hope USC beats the Big 10 posers and glides through the Pac 10 unscathed. If someone questions your logic, you cite the talent level at USC and win the argument. If they go undefeated then you could be as dumb as Craig James or Mark May and still look like a genius. Heck, you might even get to keep your job which is saying something in this economy.
But, unfortunately for USC and for the nitwits in the sports media, the best team in the country is not determined by who has the highest aggregate of Scout stars. Because you never know when a couple of 5'6" and 5'7" brothers from Texas are going to show up to the game and make mincemeat out of your 5-star players.
