šŸ€ University of Alabama assistant basketball coach’s wife and son bitten by copperhead

Learned to respect....but fear them.
Fear? I'm not with you there. Respect? Most definitely.

On a related note ...

Recently I was out biking and passed a copperhead crossing the road. I stopped, turned around, and went back to get a closer look. It was every bit of 3½ feet and probably five to six inches in diameter in the middle.

I was fascinated...and then here comes the pickup driving, rebel flag flying redneck in his F-150. I heard him hit the gas when he was about 25ft from where I (we?) were and sure enough he caught the snake with his right front tire. Literally, that snake was thrown 20-25' in the air...not sure how, but damn sure I saw it flyin'.

So we live in Toney, AL and it's bunch of new construction around us... and the developer decided to put two ponds in our neighborhood. At night, we were sitting on the porch we heard coyotes, frogs, rabbits, birds all in 30 mins.. and I turned to my wife and I said, We've had field mouse issues lately and when we have mouse issues, and all of those animals near us.. expect to see snakes eventually this summer in our yard eventually.

This is what I had at my doorstep last year, I had just walked inside and went in for 2 minutes and went to go back out

Same thing happened to me last Summer, except it was a two and a half foot long Copperhead. He matched our brick perfectly and I even stepped right over him going outside to check the grill. Chopped his head off and showed the kids just how careful you have to be. No clue how I didn't get popped by him.
