I'm like a lot of you, I would have called a number of more run plays. The second half, when we did run, it seemed like most were to the sidelines, after the runs up the gut had been successful. Heck, Najee had 1 carry for 17 yards early and didn't carry again until a ways into the 3rd quarter.
Also, how man screens did we run, even on 3rd and long? Twice when Tua forced incomplete passes on consecutive plays, he had Jacobs wide open for screen passes when he rolled from blocking. I mean wide open for huge gains. But he didn't even look that way. I'm thinking we got our bad game out of our system, which we seem to have one each yet. This year we survived it with a win, which may be scary for the other 3 teams.
I will go with a "yes" on the stupidest play of the year, but not because of the fake punt idea, but the stupid formation they came out with on the attempt. They didn't try to disguise it at all. Their normal punt formation is 3 up backs for the punter, which are all big linemen. This formation had 1 up back and it was Fields... no telegraphing that play, no siree, Stevie Wonder could of seen that it was going to be a fake.
I don't think the play call was dumb... it was dumb the way they executed. I'm sure they saw a weakness they thought they could take advantage of. The dumb part was the kid "Diving" through the 3 blockers... he was the one not in control of his body that hit the punter. All the other rushers controlled their rush and didn't hit the punter. The fault was in execution by that one player, not the call itself... IMO.

Would like to add that it wasn't a 4th and 2/3/4.... It was 4th and freaking 11. That's a long way against the actual defense on the field waiting for it.

Let's put aside that we are playing with a back up QB... albeit a very good one with an explosive offense. Let's put aside they have a very good punter and have been really close to pinning us inside the 5 yard line a few times. Let's put aside their Defense has been playing a pretty good game getting us into 3rd downs and long. Let's put aside we don't have a punter that can kick the ball outside of his shadow, so if you punt us down deep and get a 3 and out, you most likely get the ball back near FG range if not in FG range to win the game.
Now, I really have no issue in Kirby going for it on 4th and 11. We don't have a very good FG kicker and he has confidence in his Defense. However, why use the formation they did? I mean, either use your standard formation and fake outta that OR put your offense on the field and go for it. You most likely have a better chance of getting 11 yards with your normal offense on the field...
On top of that, you put the play call in a FR QB's hands. To be honest, the QB choked. He could have tried to hit the gunner that was crossing...the DB covering him got some what picked by Swift going out in his route and might have got 11 yards on a good pass/run. Swift was open, but took a great pass to get it him and he'd still have to have a good 6 yard run to get the additional yardage.
Bottom line, the call was fine... however, Kirby should have called a time out when he saw our alignment and punted it... or maybe Fields was supposed to read that and check out of it into a punt... even if you're trying to save a time out... take the 5 yard Delay penalty and punt, but for whatever reason they keep moving forward with it and I'm very thankful.
I watched the game unfold, was exhausted and then I watched bits and pieces of the replay and was worn out again. I still cannot figure for the life of me what Kirby Smart was thinking on that 4th down play. Stupid? Maybe, but far one of the worst calls in the history of the game. Of course, if it worked, he would be a genius.

Agree, but he’s been a solid special teams guy all year. Last year too. Made a mistake there, he’ll learn from it.
Anyone remember who is dad is? I worked for him in high school, along side him often loading trucks at midnight. Great guy to me. Terry Anderson. Huge Tennessee supporter/donor and former player.
@94 Grad, One thing I've seen few mention is how little success the UGA offense was having in the second half.
Assuming the did punt, stopped the offense (which they hadn't been able to do,) and got the ball back. What faith did he have in his offense being able to score?
