LOS ANGELES -- Rutgers has withdrawn from a two-game football series with UCLA scheduled for 2020 and 2021.

According to a deal signed in 2009, the schools were to play a home-and-home series at Rutgers in 2016 and at the Rose Bowl in 2017. However, in 2014, those games were pushed back to 2020 and 2021, respectively, to accommodate a Rutgers series with Washington.

UCLA says it offered to flip the order of the games to keep the deal intact, but Rutgers declined.

As part of the deal, Rutgers is required to pay UCLA a $500,000 termination fee within 30 days of being asked.

UCLA says it will begin looking for opponents to fill the vacant schedule dates.

I'd like that. When we were in Pasadena for the NC game, we met a family of UCLA supporters while eating lunch one day. We talked back and forth for awhile and I finally asked the man who he was pulling for, Bama or Texas. He said "Oh we're all pulling for Bama." And then, laughing he said, " I guess you remember we kicked your ass the last time you were here? In fact we did it again in Tuscaloosa the next year."

I told him I did remember those games. "You were lucky, you caught us while we were down. But I'd bet you couldn't do it again." He replied, "don't take it personal. I hope Bama beats Texas, we don't like Texas."

I'd like to play them home and home and see who kicks ass this time, Chip Kelly or not.

The only way Alabama could jump in place would be to play two games against OOC P5 schools in 2021. It would also have to be within two weeks of playing Miami and right before the SEC opener. Or, right before Auburn.

More importantly, UCLA already has LSU on their schedule in 2021. Do you really thing they'd even consider scheduling two SEC teams, much less two SECW teams, not to mention one of them being Bama?

Sounds as if 2020-2023 would be in order.

Edit: nm-just looked at UCLA future schedules. It ain't gonna happen. Neutral site game in 2020 at best.

Just an honest question
I would not have thought this a couple years ago, but listening to Coach talk gives me a new impression. I don't think he ever planned to coach late in life but now has a hard time seeing his life without coaching football. The way he talks is similar to the change in tone you heard from Paterno and Bowden as they got older. Add to that, he could have the win record in sight in addition to NCs. Don't rule out CNS coaching for a number of years. JMO

He'd need to stick around ~10 years, I don't see it.
I really don't either, but many old coaches didn't look like they would stick around. Paterno openly criticized Bear for coaching too long and said he would never let that happen to him. I think it is harder to give up than most people think. Not many elite coaches just quit when they get retirement age.
