🏈 Ty Simpson, a dying breed...

Sad that he's one of few when most
For sure. Money is important but it ain't everything, glad a few still realize that.
This is why I said the other day "part of me wishes..." 6.5 million for a season? Tim alluded to it in the transfer thread: invested wisely and he and his family are pretty well set. I'd love to see that for the guy.

I'm not setting aside my fanaticism with Ty nor the brand he represents.

I do find it wild. Six, maybe eight weeks ago, when I first mentioned Ty was considering returning Brandon and I started talking a little about what a QB would bring in next falls market. I thought Ty could pull $5 million. I didn't even consider $6.5.

I get it but i would've rather seen him return to Bama for a $4 million payday than go to another team, would've benefited both parties barring injury imo.

I didn't want to see him play for another team. I get people go to a job, and that's what this is these days, for a paycheck and don't begrudge anyone for going after the cash but I still hate that this is what college football has become. I quit watching NFL at a young age because no team stayed together anymore. I love the lessons football and team sports taught me, some you can't learn from individual sports imo. I liked the military for some of the same reasons, both were a type of brotherhood that is difficult to explain to people who have never participated with teams you give your all for.

This thread got me to thinking some...dangerous I know. Ty could have taken more money elsewhere and played for another team or he could have come back to Bama with money. I think one thing we are forgetting is that Ty and his family really did not need the money. His father is the head football coach at UT-Martin, making $267,090 a year and his mother is a certified exercise instructor. The family has stated in an article I read that they have not "cashed in" on his NIL money. GOOD FOR THEM!!!!! No matter, he is still to be commended for staying at Bama and honoring his commitment to the program.

On the flip side, so many of these athletes in the portal come from very humble beginnings with little to no money. Often, these kids come from families who have not attended college, some of the family members have not earned a high school diploma or hold a steady job. They live in the life cycle of just getting by with food stamps and a medical card. When a school or individuals offer x amount of money, that is unreal for them and their family. I AM NOT TRYING TO BE MEAN OR DISRESPECTFUL TO ANYONE! I have just been trying to understand some of the reasoning behind why so many young men and women enter the transfer portal other than playing time. I am sorry if I have offended anyone, that is not my intent at all.

It is 2026

At what point does this group actually take responsibility for their situation?

Not sure why that would offend anyone, it's just truth. Some kids don't need the money as their families have the means to take care of them and some families aren't able to. Some kids have parents and family with their best interest in mind and some kids don't. Some kids and their families have no idea how to manage some of these sums of money while others do, it's just life. Personally I am not into others controlling my money but I also think it would better serve the athletes to have a trust that the majority of their money goes into while giving them a percentage that they could access immediately. There's no telling how many of these college millionaires will be broke by the time they're 25.

A hypothetical world ... just a "ya know, IF..."

I don't know and I could care less (but not by much) with how much he made last season. I am curious.

A note to go with this.

With over 5000 NIL deals rejected and the average approved at $7,344.26...I wonder how they get the 6.5?

Wait you mean to tell me milf Simpson is an exercise instructor....👀👀👀

I have just been trying to understand some of the reasoning behind why so many young men and women enter the transfer portal other than playing time.
It really is pretty simple.

Playing time and compensation are the biggest two this season.
Coaching changes account for a percentage.

The development of this generation has been compromised my a lot. Among those, C-19. I mention this to point to one thing here:

They still get homesick. Likely to a greater degree today than five years ago because they were forced to stay at home.
