šŸˆ Tua: How the decision was made

I believe Saban took the first uncomfortable step of shifting the primary QB responsibilities towards Tua. I think we're almost on the same page, which is exciting.

Now that the wheels are in motion, I'll be interested to see how Jalen handles his new role. No doubt in my mind this year that at some point, Tua will miss some time.... He's real good at moving in the pocket and extending the play which could lead to some dings.

Could def see a series each half dedicated to Jalen... Maybe even a 4 minute offense type of setup where they can use that option play and few others. And at some point, fake a run and pop a big one over the top.

It would crazy to see how humbled he was today in that presser. Seemed a little exhausted from the drama. I'm sure he's happy to be moving forward... With what appears to be the best QB in college football!

I believe both Tua and Jalen have known who the ā€œprimary QB responsibilitiesā€ have belonged to for a while now because their Coach told them and it was certainly evident in the game on Saturday for all to see. I’m glad that you are almost on the same page because that’s what really matters most to the team... That the fans are satisfied with information their coach gives to the general public and are on the same page. Life is good!

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. Our opponents are going to start blitzing like crazy. With Tua's ability to react and unload to probably the fastest WRs we've ever had, blind blitzes are the only way they're going to get to him. And they're going to lay the wood to him every chance they get. Our backs have got to be able to make their blocks and even then, he's going to take some licks.

Agreed. It works best this way!

Yes they have. Back several months ago when I posted Tua was the starter. Jalen will transfer in December and may RS very soon. His dad and he are still weighing their options. When is the last time you saw a 3rd string QB come in on the middle of a drive for QB2?

Roll Tide!

Well then we just go outside zone PA with a moving pocket RPO. If the corner bails into man coverage with the y receiver, hand it off. If the corner stays in zone, then the WR runs a dig/hitch/curl/drag right behind the blitzing LB.

If they STILL want to send the house, we go max pro with 2 TEs and run a couple TE delay screens right behind the blitzers. TE chips the edge rusher enough to slow him down, then peels out into the flat. 10-15 yard gains every time. We also can hit a couple TE pop (hot) routes right behind the blitzing LBs for 6-8 yard gains every time.

Then they'll start backing off those cover zero house blitzes. Then we run the ball down their throats when they go cover 2 until they crowd the box. Then we nail them over the top with PA. And round, and round, and round we go.

I can't imagine the disappointment that Jalen feels. The reality is that he is not as good as Tua and the competition gets elevated at the next level. As stated, Jalen may never get a sniff at an NFL job but neither is most of the team. (see Bo Scarborough's quick exit). I think he would fade into oblivion if he transfers to another school.

If Jalen were to ask me what to do, I would suggest continuing his education at Alabama working to get on the field. Finish a masters in strength and conditioning or the like. Between his education, tutelage in the program and his leadership qualities he would have a great resume. He could have a great lengthy career in coaching.

Let me preface this by saying: I trust Nick Saban essentially implicitly, he's led us here with some of the best decisions I've ever seen.

Nick, it's time to sit Jalen down and talk about where he can transfer when the season ends. You need to prepare for life without Jalen in the room, the kid is just a weakness when he enters the field. It's obvious to most everyone watching the games and even practices that Tua is just beyond Jalen in reading defenses, analyzing the play, and making solid decisions in the pocket. I know, Jalen carried you there and he has done everything you've asked of him and he's been probably one of the best young men you've ever coached, but, sometimes these things just don't work out. You don't do Jalen any good continuing to string him through all this without really a chance to beat out Tua. Please, find it within yourself to let Jalen and his family know that you're deeply sorry and regret that it didn't work out for the QB, but it's time for Alabama to rally around Tua and what he can do..thanks Nick.

Crap like this is so dumb. I'm sorry but its just dumb. Did you not watch the first drive? Do you see how quickly something like that can happen? (Tua getting hurt) But you just think it's time to sit a former SEC Offensive Player of the Year down and say "hey, go transfer somewhere." Sure that makes a ton of freaking sense.

Sorry, perhaps I needed to be clearer, I don't WANT Jalen to transfer, but I think in this case we do what is in the best interest for the player not the team. The young man is good enough to start for almost any team in D1 and so we have to be fair to him, you're being dumb by wanting to hoard all the QBs and screw over a young mans future by forcing him to sit behind his junior.

So, explain to me how Jalen transferring right this second benefit benefits ANYONE? If he transfers now he will have to sit out the rest of the season. Period. If he waits until the end of the season he will be able to transfer anywhere he wants and play immediately because he graduates in December. And that's only ASSUMING he even will want to transfer.

It could help Mac Jones and Alabama in the long run... Because the most likely QB on the roster to take over when Tua leaves will now be the primary backup, taking valuable #2 reps to prep him for the next step. Also gets a lot more snaps in blow outs - Which may or may not have helped Tua develop last season?

I personally think Jalen staying will help Alabama win another title. But in the long run, especially if Jalen is leaving any way, there are circumstances it will benefit the program. Especially if Dad wants to make himself the story, again.

Mac Jones gonna transfer after Taulia wins the job as a RS frosh in '20...

I attended Thompson versus Foley and watched Taulia. He seems to be a mature decision maker. He didn't need to throw downfield much, and the game was a mismatch from the start. It was difficult to tell how good Taulia really is from the game I saw.

You can tell how good he is when Thompson plays Hoover (this week) and Hewitt-Trussville (10/26), which will be Taulia vs. Paul Tyson

Hewitt Trussville has a garbage defense! It should be a shootout!!

Mac threw 1 and just missed Forristall for a TD. He'll be fine with more reps. He was too amped up in his first action.

I think his point was that Mac didn't come in for "Development" with the expectation of Hurt RS... He came in to kill the clock...

I'm pointing out that he wasn't developed last night at all. If he was, he would have been slinging the ball like Tua did last year when he came in.

It'll be interesting to see what goes on... because Jalen could transfer years end and RS if he only plays 4 games or less. Or he many look at his situation and know he's most likely not going to be a NFL QB... so if that's the case, what does he want to do? He may want to contribute in the ways he can and be part of a wining tradition that is Alabama even if he isn't the starting QB.

If I were to bet, I'd say he transfers; but you never know what may happen... However, I would bet you that Saban plans to use him in more than 4 games, so it'll be interesting to see if Jalen goes along with that. Does he let his RS get burned, or does he refuse to play after 4 in action games? I think that will be the telling sign. If he plays 5 games, he may just want to stay here and contribute as he can... if you see him sitting after 4 games, he gone...
