1. Congratulations to the team(Alabama) on a pristine performance. perfect first half. A+

2. Miami again this season is screwing up. Head Coach Shannon has arguably a football team on Alabama's general level but unlike coach Saban Miami is making mental boo boo's that are costing the program. (this is a compliment to Ala)

3. Michigan and Rich Rodriguez proved themselves yesterday versus Wisconsin. I watched the Mich/Miami-Ohio game earlier this year and Era Parsigeans grandson who is the best and probably most stable field goal kicker in america today. Rich Rodriquez is a true coaching genius!

4. LSU sputtered but it occurs to me that it is likely AU beat em up last week physically.

5. O.U. has a great passing attack. I am still not sure if I am sold on O.U.'S status as #1!?!

6. Texas is for real.

7. and finally the reason I named this thread "The Devils Advocate".....disclaimer "I fully expect to either be ignored or bashed or disliked for stating this opinion but it is the truth none the less":

Notre Dame exploded yesterday and looked to me at times like the most talented team in the United States. Clausen is deadly accurate and they've found a running game which is equal to the passing attack. Notre Dame looks dangerous to me....almost like pro teams.

Ok you can go ahead and crush me I surrender
but I am not a N.D. fan, supporter or even observer in the least....I consider myself honest and reporting what I think I witnessed. The emergence of Notre Dame as a football power.

I dont know whats more funny. ND winning....or you saying ND is like a NFL team. They were tied to PURDUE 14-14 at halftime. Granted they made halftime changes but they are not close to an NFL team! Purdue is an 2-2 team. They beat N. Colorado and Central Mighagan. I dont think that they have a great program as of yet. Granted ND is a good program but they are not there yet! At least wait untill they play USC at the end of the year!

A couple of points
(points I consider beyond argument)

1. Alabama (good teams since 1973) has always been essentially more physical than Notre Dames Irish.
(I have two copies of the 1973 Sugar Bowl) but Alabama usually loses to N.D. in big games none the less.(the record speaks for itself)

2. That Purdue team you dismiss is well coached (J. Tiller-Wyoming) and tough. In fact the last time Purdue and UGA squared off it went into triple OT.
(2003)Purdues receiver corps is huge and talented and will be first round draft picks in the NFL.

3. I stand behind my assessment of Clausen. ( dangerous and deadly accurate

4. I definitely want quality opponents for Alabama in years to come. Opponents who have had their way with the Tide not Penn State who we always beat because Penn is a mid level Big Ten team. I want Texas or Notre Dame.

Then again I enjoy a good fight not pretending. cool8)

While I think ND has improved I am stopping way short of calling them a "really gooe team".

Lets look at their season, shall we?

3-1 so far...

Win #1 - San Diego State - they are 1-3 with Idaho as there only win..this game was tied 7-7 at the half and the Irish trailed 13-7 after 3 quarters.
Not an impressive win.

Win #2 - Michigan - while I think UM is very weak, this is (in my opinion) their best win. I think big plays got them the lead and they held on. Michigan just upset Wisconsin, but heck...they haven't shown anything this year either. Wisconsin's only win was again Fresno State and they barely beat Toledo and just won by 5 against UCLA (a team that lost 59-0 to BYU) Michigan is not a goo team, they just got a weak team at the right time.
a decently impressive win.

Loss #1 - Michigan State - this is a decent team and it showed. ND had nothing for them. A TD in the fourth quarter did nothing to show they could play with MSU. The Spartans aren't a really good team either, they just have a bruising tailback and ND couldn't stop him.
Not an impressive loss.

Win #3 - Purdue - sure you can say a Drew Brees led Purdue team would be better here. Heck, Kyle Orton would move the ball...but that isn't today. Today, they are 2-2 with wins against mighty N. Colorado & C. Michigan (pun intended). The Biolermakers will struggle to finish above 500. If they were in any type of league there would be no way. ( I give them a 50-50 chance...pun intended!)

Bottom line, ND is average at best. USC will beat them by 21 or more and North Carolina would have beaten them easily before they lost their QB. I still see them losing to the Heels, but not by as much. Other losses to Navy & Boston College should leave the Irish with a 7-5 record. Better than last year, but no where near the accolades you have bestowed.

So far...Not an impressive season...but better than last!

I wouldn't say that this year. I think they are the best team in the Big 10 without a doubt. Best friend is a big PSU fan and we've watched every game they've had this year. They beat the brakes off of an Oregon State team that just beat the Trojans. I'd love to play ND, to shut up the Leprechauns around here. Didn't Saban say he wanted to play them?
