That Montana picture with the mountains in the background is awesome.

Those are hills :D. That area is neat if you ever get a chance to visit, there is a huge canyon just a bit down the river from where @doemasters took that photo called Bighorn Canyon. Not sure if he has any photos of the canyon, really cool place. I was there probably 8 years ago on a boat in the reservoir and took some photos cell phone that don't do it justice at all.
 
I never did get the story on why the old cars were in the river

It's riprap. You see them along sections of the Yellowstone River as well.

Typically you'll see stone, concrete ripraps along the banks of rivers to help prevent the shorelines from being reshaped due to erosion, in parts of Montana for whatever reason they used old cars. Farmers being funny or just recycling junk would be my guess.
