Optimus, I'll speak for Kirk on this one.

Basically, long and short, is that we try to run a PG-13 site when it's all said and done. When I say PG-13 I don't mean that we want immature posting or nonsense. We just want solid posting and participation without the language and idiotic stuff that can sometimes accompany it. Having said that....for the most part (and I mean like 99% of the time) people here do that. We have the best site on the net as far as I'm concerned. We have the best members. We're like a family. We all get along well and we have solid people here from top to bottom. But every once in a while things get a little dicey and the staff has to bring people back in line.

All in all, it's not that big a deal though, because...WE HAVE THE BEST SITE, WITH THE BEST PEOPLE. So our jobs are easy. We just once in a while have to play the "authority" card and to their credit, the members are good enough to recognize and respect that.

Seriously though Optimus, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that you guys don't get to see. And we have had comments and complaints. It's our job to address them. It's not a HUGE deal, because it's not an ongoing or major problem really, but we do have to address things when they come up.

Has the language and marginal pics ramped up lately? Maybe. I'm not sure? But whether I see it or you see it, that's not really the issue. As staff we have obligations to the members, and that's really what it comes down to.

Now, pipe down or else I'll be forced to smoke some ribs, bring them over to your place.....then force you to watch me and Drew eat them one by one! :twisted:

You may have missed a few recent posts that have been undoubtedly questionable. The membership is pretty good about notifying the staff and the mods around here are even better at policing the posts and editing anything that crosses the line (if I do say so myself.)

Bama1966 is simply asking that everyone show a little respect for everyone else. No one's being singled out. It's simply a matter of re-establishing the principles of this fine forum.

my only question is what prompted this.

noticed a LSU fan and one of ours going at it like little girls at the mall, but haven't noticed much vulgarity or questionable posts, unless of course they have been deleted by the mods as soon as they hit the site.

but I do enjoy the CLEAN fun we have, so I am not against it in the way Optimus is, no offense OP

I am not here to build up my reputation, I have one of those that I am quite proud of in the real world. If a coonass feels the need to become smug with me on the main board, I will respond likewise.

It is up to the moderators or the admin. to remove the posts, remove the poster, or posters, and it seems like they handled the situation. If they think I was out of line, ban me. There are very effective ways to deal with these things.

If I didn't impress you, or if I didn't live up to your standards, you can rest assured I don't really care.

The next smarmy, greasy coonass that thinks he will storm the board and become confrontational and make disparaging comments about the team or coach I support, expect more of the same.

If the mods didn't want someone responding in a likewise manner to this poster, they should have ended it much more quickly. He was here to start trouble and he found it. Asking things like which game would 'Bama lose, the Auburn or LSU game? Saying Saban always loses a game he shouldn't, which one would it be and several other instigating comments.

He got what he wanted. If the members of this board don't want it to be that kind of board, he should have been handled by someone that had the power to handle it.

I don't really care if I seem silly doing it or not, that doesn't concern me.

The dedication of the site administration to fairness and giving adequate leeway is well evidenced by me not having the magic mod control console

I would take care of a lot of the posts that go too far, but I would probably go too far in controlling rival posters. I have a lower tolerance for stupid than most of you guys. You let people show their ignorance...and that may be better than zapping them like I probably would.

My rule of thumbs on a message board is to try not to say anything to someone in text that I would not say to their face. Unfortunately, not everyone operates under the same m.o.

It is too easy to write something offensive. I had an incident on a message board back in 1991 that almost ended very badly. A person with whom I had been feuding was going to a party that I also was attending. I took a gun to the party. A funny thing happened though. When we met at the party we realized that the reason for our fighting was that we had more in common than was healthy and we became fast friends.

I learned my lesson. I don't always succeed in being the perfectly agreeable poster, but I try to never make it personal...for that reason I abhor personal attacks. I might insult someone's actions or their mentality or somesuch, but I stop short of saying "you are a..." Quite frankly, in the cyber world, you don't know what a person is. No body language or vocal inflection to read, and all the emoticons in the world don't make up the difference.

Come on, tidentrue. That wasn't how it went at all. I made an innocent and for other 'Bama fans type of joke, nothing mean spirited. It went something like this:

"I guess 'Bama Know's Shon now."

This person, a visitor and an LSU fan, felt the need to tell me that that wasn't funny in the least bit if I was trying to make a joke.

Well, maybe it wasn't funny to him, but you can still use a bit of tact and not be a snide and rude clown when visiting a board.

That was the beginning of the flame-fest. Then this "innocent" poster got down to what he was really here for, to slyly ridicule and badger 'Bama fans because he was upset that Satan was doing well at 'Bama. BTW, the boy, as you affectionately call him, was 34 years old.

Did I feel kind of childish and petty for getting down in the gutter with him? Yes, I did. Would I do it again? Sure, without hesitation.
