🏈 TJ Yeldon swaps from AU to UA

That said, him running to the nation forum just to brag about being right? That never sits right with me. Let your words speak for themselves.

----Howard,

You remember the Winston threads? Ironic...considering.

That dude sure was convinced that Winston was coming to Bama. I think the mother ship beamed him out right after that.

Speaking of JW, his mom assures me that he is still firm on his commitment to FSU.

I may be wrong but I think I remember hearing his mother and a few other family members wanted him to go to Bama (im sure they support whatever decision he makes, but they preffered Bama) and his dad was wanting him to go to FSU? Would be nice to have him but it doesnt make much difference if he switches to Bama... Goldman on the other hand I really want wearing crimson lol

You are right. Mom is a Bama fan, but only nudged him gently towards us. Dad was pushing FSU, but not that hard either. (They are a good family).I think what made his mind up was the prospect of playing earlier at FSU, plus their baseball program being stronger.

Baseball may win the day (draft coming in June) but his mom says his first love is football, and it will likely take first round money to lure him away.

At this point, Golden would be nice, but I'd also like to see us sign an SEC ready cornerback, maybe two.

If I'm seeing this right, our strength next year is going to be in the front seven. Then, in 2014, the back seven. In 2015...

Watch the maturity levels on offense and defense. We are switching back and forth from year to year. Last year our hope was rested on a mature offense. Didn't work. This year, a mature defense. Will it work? In our NC year...a mature defense.

If I'm seeing this right...we'll be talking about relying on our offense next season.

Geno Smith has drawn comparisons with Darrell Revis so I would suggest that sounds pretty "ready" to me.

Athleticism? Yes.

"Ready for our scheme?" Questionable. But, I'm optimistic.

As example, when we recruited Dont'a I had high hopes he'd contribute as a true frosh. I knew it was a difficult scheme to understand but his choices were down to attending Bama or Vandy. Considering he had a written offer from Vandy—meaning he was academically qualified to attend school in Nashville—I thought he had the ability to learn our scheme quickly. He did.

Now, with Geno? I'm not AS confident, but I also have to acknowledge he has the same type of offers...Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, etc. Qualifying academically with GS isn't a question.

All that said I stand with Howard. We need a couple of SEC ready CB's. Geno I see as a dime back early on...maybe a nickel.

I thought he looked a little slow and lazy myself, but lately he seems to have gotten faster and his work ethic has really picked up

Funny, I'm in the polar opposite boat. He seems a step slower and runs like a girl now!

In all honesty, I'm frustrated but wish him well. He probably opens camp as your #2 guy. Hart won't be the same for another year and Trent is gone (opinion, of course).

His flip really only hurts us if Dyer doesn't remove his head from his own anus. If he comes back, obviously Dyer is our #1 with Tre Mason filling the #2 slot (assuming McCalebb stupidly goes pro). Then Grant and Blakely are eligible next year and we still have Jovon Robinson. Grant and Blakely looked good on scout team (but honestly, our starting D may be more to blame). Blakely looked great coming out of HS and is built like an every down back. Grant supposedly put on some muscle. I'm not saying that Yeldon couldn't get PT with us but the carries get cut down when you're trying to play that many backs. (I know you guys have several backs, I will explain in the next paragraph)

Bama's last two starters have ended up in New York and if he's able to knock off the incumbents and become the #2 back, he will get a good amount of carries. Saban generally doesn't go past his #2 back until late and he rotates between #1 and #2 generously. At least while Malzahn called the plays, we would often rotate through 3-4 backs.

Bama is probably a better move for him from a PT perspective and your o-line is not the unknown ours is heading into next season. You'll have a returning starter at QB and minimal change in offensive philosophy, regardless of who you end up hiring. Probably opening next season in the top 10. It isn't like he bailed on us to go to Ole Miss.

The ONLY thing that irritates me about this is that up until his coach announced it, he was telling everyone he was solid to AU. Generally when kids start to waiver they either disappear or their word choice changes (i.e. "as of now, I'm solid"). He told Chizik late last week he was still on board an enrolling in January, then two days later announces Bama. Kids changing their mind happens all the time and is part of "the game" when it comes to recruiting. This is the first I've heard a kid tell a coach he is 100% committed and two days later announces otherwise.

But, ya win some and lose some. He's a big pick-up for you guys given that Trent may be a top 15 pick and Hart still needs more time to really get that knee back to it's old state. Being cleared to run and such isn't that big of a deal. It'll be a while before he's confident on it again.

I think it's awesome that the athlete does what he wants to do for a change. Coaches recruit players with promises and then bolt for different jobs. More power to this young man. Boo hoo, he broke his word to the coach. Coaches do it to players all the time.

Of course your sarcasm would be sorely missing if the shoe were on the other foot. Shall we dig up the Calloway threads from last year when he first flipped? A coach taking a new job after a season and a kid purposefully misleading coaches, reporters, etc is vastly different. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, I'm doing just fine with mine.

Of course he should do what he wants and if Bama is truly where he wants to go then he should go there. But just admit you're wavering. There's no shame in it

No, I think the athlete should go where he wants. I'm peeved at the Franchione's of the coaching profession. Recruiting is two way street. I like for the dust to settle in recruiting and see where Bama stands. I don't recollect (and my memory may fail me on ocassion) faulting a player for flipping his allegiance. I think I'm generally on the side of the player in cases like this. It's much easier for a coach to jump ship than a player once that athlete gets on campus. Coaches make a handsome living off the backs of the players.
