🏈 TJ Yeldon swaps from AU to UA

Funny, I'm in the polar opposite boat. He seems a step slower and runs like a girl now!

In all honesty, I'm frustrated but wish him well. He probably opens camp as your #2 guy. Hart won't be the same for another year and Trent is gone (opinion, of course).

His flip really only hurts us if Dyer doesn't remove his head from his own anus. If he comes back, obviously Dyer is our #1 with Tre Mason filling the #2 slot (assuming McCalebb stupidly goes pro). Then Grant and Blakely are eligible next year and we still have Jovon Robinson. Grant and Blakely looked good on scout team (but honestly, our starting D may be more to blame). Blakely looked great coming out of HS and is built like an every down back. Grant supposedly put on some muscle. I'm not saying that Yeldon couldn't get PT with us but the carries get cut down when you're trying to play that many backs. (I know you guys have several backs, I will explain in the next paragraph)

Bama's last two starters have ended up in New York and if he's able to knock off the incumbents and become the #2 back, he will get a good amount of carries. Saban generally doesn't go past his #2 back until late and he rotates between #1 and #2 generously. At least while Malzahn called the plays, we would often rotate through 3-4 backs.

Bama is probably a better move for him from a PT perspective and your o-line is not the unknown ours is heading into next season. You'll have a returning starter at QB and minimal change in offensive philosophy, regardless of who you end up hiring. Probably opening next season in the top 10. It isn't like he bailed on us to go to Ole Miss.

The ONLY thing that irritates me about this is that up until his coach announced it, he was telling everyone he was solid to AU. Generally when kids start to waiver they either disappear or their word choice changes (i.e. "as of now, I'm solid"). He told Chizik late last week he was still on board an enrolling in January, then two days later announces Bama. Kids changing their mind happens all the time and is part of "the game" when it comes to recruiting. This is the first I've heard a kid tell a coach he is 100% committed and two days later announces otherwise.

But, ya win some and lose some. He's a big pick-up for you guys given that Trent may be a top 15 pick and Hart still needs more time to really get that knee back to it's old state. Being cleared to run and such isn't that big of a deal. It'll be a while before he's confident on it again.

I can understand the frustration, but I'll bet your like me in that when it comes down to it, if the kids doesn't want to be part of your school then you don't want them to be part of your school. I do wonder if this helps Dyer's chances at coming back to AU (doubt it hurts ). I do think he'll have a good shot at #2 (just because it seems like Saban likes to put a younger guy at #2 to get them ready for when #1 opens up). And I don't think you have to write opinion about Trent being gone (I take it for fact that he is unless Trent says otherwise). I'm interested to see how things go with Hart next season (what type of roll he has and how much he plays).

I definitely agree the kid should go where he wants. If his heart isn't in my school then I want him to go elsewhere both for the sake of Auburn and the kid. Every athlete deserves to go where they want, if it's offered, of course. I'm not at all mad that he chose Bama. If that's where he wants I'm happy for him. My problem was how it went down but at the end of the day, we are still dealing w/ 17-18 y/o kids.

Not to my knowledge, I just think Yeldon takes over #2, Dee #3 (until healthy-meaning his pre-op condition). Wasn't Fowler behind Dee and Lacy until Dee got hurt? I may be wrong

We dont have depth charts at Bama

But I see Lacy starting and Fowler the big 3rd down/ goaling back.... Hart will be the situational back and Yeldon will likely redshirt.. just my opinion

Ah, I forgot. Silly me!

I'd agree with you if Hart weren't coming back from an ACL. He won't be the same back he was for another season. Hightower is a prime example. Medical clearance is given when the leg is at least 80% strength relative to the non-surgical leg. Regaining the confidence and functional capacity you once had takes longer. He will be back and a very good player, just not this year

I'll be the first to say that Fowler has surprised me at running back. I thought he was just going to be a time killing battering ram who ended up there because he couldn't learn the defense, but he has produced and has greater potential. Despite the talent coming in on recovery and new signees, I wouldn't count him out.

RTR,

Tim

Yeah I think Fowler could be a great back for us down the line, but after hearing Terry continuously talk about how good of a route runner he is and how good his hands are, maybe switching to H-Back could be a decent thing for him? He already has the size and having him as a lead blocker at times wouldnt be a bad thing at all. Maybe even a chance for us to have some inside runs with the Fullback/H-Back.

All I know is that when 245 lbs of meanness are running at someone, they usually move out of the way... plus with the OL we have next year, my grandmother could probably run for 100 yards per game

Lacy
Hart/Fowler

That's how I see our combination next season.

Consider this. We're talking about Yeldon and I've seen a few references to Calloway. Who, by the way, is still taking reps with running backs. Let's not forget about Blake as well.

Where Yeldon fits in is a good question. I'd bet, this summer, we see people saying he needs to return kicks.

While T J does not have the same build as our recent running backs such as Ingram, Richardson, Lacy and company, it is not as if Bama has never had great success with a taller running back Think back a few years. there are some sililarities to:

Yeldon will be a great addition to our stable of backs. Honestly, I think he looked at the recent success of Mark and Trent as being a Heisman winner and finalist, along with 1st rd draft pick and potential Top 10 draft pick. He also may look into the fact that for 4 consecutive yrs now, we have been in the National Championship picture with possibly our 2nd Crystal Ball coming our way this season.

Do yall think Yeldons announcement will play any roll in Sanders decision ?

He was always OK State's to lose but I think Yeldon would drive him away. Two 5* backs in the same year? Not likely. That would make for an awfully crowded backfield as well. Lacy, Hart, Fowler, Yeldon and Sanders? Fowler would be your new H-back or a redshirt for one of the frosh.
