🏈 Tim Williams arrested?

Glad to say that I haven't seen any "kick his ass off of the team!" on here yet!! Even though I will admit that my brain dead cousin thinks he should be booted. To be honest, I have more of an issue with being out at 2am than anything else. Now, I can say that when I was down there in school, 2am was still early!! It didn't matter when the Houndztooth, The Booth, Harry's, or Side Tracks/Post 37/ Slime Track closed.

No clue here, but I would probably expect Saban to sit Tim for at least a half Saturday or up to 2 games.

as asinine as it is, he broke the law and should pay the price for it; both legally and to the team and Coach Saban. i have no problem with discipline when rules/laws are broken; even, like i said, if the rule or law is asinine.

while i do think it was dumb to have the gun on campus, regardless if it was purchased legally or not, the law regarding that is, in my opinion, idiotic. are college students not allowed to defend themselves against those who would do them harm? that's they reason why schools, no matter if it's a grade school or a college campus, are considered soft targets. criminals know that people on those campuses don't have, or aren't supposed to have, guns to defend themselves so it makes it easier to do harmful things.

my belief is that if you are legally allowed to purchase and carry a firearm, then you should be allowed to carry it on campus. criminals can't legally purchase a firearm, but get one somehow anyway and start shooting at soft targets because they know no one there will be able to shoot back.

It really doesnt matter what your belief or my belief is, the school bans guns from being on campus. Just like the University of Alabama can't come into your house and tell you that you can't have guns, you dont get a say in their policies. The point of a policy like that is to be able to lockup and punish people that do come to campuses with bad intentions.

It's being reported that court documents are saying he had a permit for the gun but didn't have it on him. Tim Williams has produced both a receipt and permit for the gun. That's what is out there right now.

Can he still be in trouble for having the weapon without the permit nearby? What about not having it in the same state?

I am not well-versed in such laws but I would think it works like a drivers license. "Sorry officer, I left it at home .. in Louisiana". Aka, your ass is probably in trouble.

Can anyone explain how that works?

Is the Publix on University property? The article said he was sitting in the Publix parking lot.

I would hardly think that was "on campus." And how common is it for the University Police to be patrolling outside the campus limits?

Before we get sideways on a debate about carrying guns on campus, from the story on AL.com, he and another guy were in the car and of course the officer smelled weed. The other guy claimed the weed, but a search revealed the gun under the seat.

At this point I can say with 100% certainty, you can get arrested for not showing your gun permit. But it's starting to feel like that driver's license or insurance card you can't seem to find.

When I got a permit the sheriff told me to have it with me. He also said if I was stopped by an officer for any reason even a driver license check to show him the permit as well as my license and proof of insurance. He told my wife the same thing and added "it's your responsibility to let the officer know you have a gun. "
That what they require in Lawrence county Alabama.

alabama law you don't have to have a permit for a gun being in your vehicle. only a concealed permit if you have it on your person outside of personal property which includes vehicles. As long as the gun is his. He can't be arrested for having a gun in the car. The bill was passed in April of this year. your vehicle is an extension of your home.

Sounds like there is a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Sounds like barners have infiltrated our university PD.

Since when? Did the law pass the house already? I know it passed the senate in April, but I never saw it pass the house.

Looking on the Alabama Code website...

Section 13A-11-73

(a) Except on land under his or her control or in his or her own abode or his or her own fixed place of business, no person shall carry a pistol in any vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person without a permit issued under Section 13A-11-75(a)(1) or recognized under Section 13A-11-85.

(b) Except as otherwise prohibited by law, a person legally permitted to possess a pistol, but who does not possess a valid concealed weapon permit, may possess an unloaded pistol in his or her motor vehicle if the pistol is locked in a compartment or container that is in or affixed securely to the vehicle and out of reach of the driver and any passenger in the vehicle.

(Acts 1936, Ex. Sess., No. 82, p. 51; Code 1940, T. 14, §175; Acts 1947, No. 616, p. 463, §3; Acts 1951, No. 784, p. 1378; Acts 1956, 2nd Ex. Sess., No. 43, p. 336; Code 1975, §13-6-153; Act 2013-283, p. 938, §2.)

Have they not seen the news at all the past few months. If you're black and you have a gun, cigarette, swollen finger, iphone, plastic cup, doritos bag, mix tape from your girlfriend, or a Daniel Boone raccoon hat....you're going to get smoked by a cop. He's lucky!
It does seem that way PCRammer but the law is the law. It's not just black folks being shot. As I said in another thread, a white kid, that went to my daughter's hs, was shot and killed because he flashed a cop with high beams on. Did you hear anything about this on the news? No because he was white. I don't care what's color your skin is, every one is a human being and all of us should treat every perosn with respect.

Why is he out with a dude smoking bud on a week night? I get it, you're a college kid but you are not a normal college kid. You are THIS close to being a future millionaire. Its not a major deal but he needs some self awareness moving forward.

What percentage of D1 football players smoke weed? If all of them were kicked off of teams, we wouldn't be left with many teams.

But I agree with #80 above: this is clearly a bad case of the dumbass.

This is getting blown out of proportion. He legally purchased a gun(which is his right to do so). He showed the officer the receipt. He misunderstood the law....which it sounds like not even all of us in front of our computer could figure out. He was not charged with any illegal drugs although someone else in the car was. He was prolly told by the gun seller that "you have X number of days to go register and get a license. Until you do so you can show this receipt to prove you are the owner and that should be sufficient"

Sounds like it was up to the officer to either let him off with a warning/ticket or take him in. Because there was weed in the car .....he went. But this is basically the same as getting a ticket for not having your license or insurance on you. Which just so you know, an officer can arrest you for speeding, ins, or not being able to provide your license as well. Most of us are offered the option of signing for the ticket and agreeing to pay the ticket or go to court. But he most certainly can arrest you for even those small offences. The officer choose to arrest. But in all actuality people are more sensitive because it was a gun but its basically a fine for not being able to produce your license.
