🏈 Tide, Gamecocks picked to meet for title

The 12 sports information directors in the SEC have picked Alabama and South Carolina to meet in the 2011 SEC championship game as part of the 65th annual Birmingham News spring SEC football preview.

South Carolina received the maximum five first-place votes by the Eastern Division sports information directors. Alabama got four first-place votes in the West and LSU the other two first-place votes. SIDs weren't allowed to vote for their own school.

The SIDs also ranked the teams 1-12 entering the season. Here's that poll:
  • 1. Alabama
  • 2. LSU
  • 3. South Carolina
  • 4. Arkansas
  • 5. Florida
  • 6. Georgia
  • 7. Auburn
  • 7. Mississippi State
  • 9. Tennessee
  • 10. Kentucky
  • 11. Ole Miss
  • 12. Vanderbilt
The SIDs also selected a preseason All-SEC team and top performers for the 2011 season.

Some of the category winners included South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore as the MVP, Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower as best leader, Arkansas running back Knile Davis as the most underrated, Georgia's Aaron Murray as the best quarterback, Alabama's Barrett Jones as the best offensive lineman, South Carolina's Devin Taylor as the best defensive lineman and LSU's Morris Claiborne as the best cornerback.

I am questioning whether SC can do it again this year. I know UF and UGA aren't where they should be, but I feel the bulldogs have a good chance to win this year. I think they take the game with South Carolina and that ultimately leads to UF or UGA being there in the end.
UF is the one I question the most. Talent?...heck yeah they will have it. Scheme?...not sure. Is he gonna try to run the ball? I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see. I think USC takes a backseat. JMHO.
