Unless the Tide Cagers blow a 14 point lead in the last 2:54, they will win the 5 Hour Energy Puerto Rico Tip-Off Championship. The mix of of returning players along with the young pups has been very solid! Coach Anthony Grant is to be commended for getting the Tide Cagers to buy into tough, physical defense. Hopefully, the Tide can continue to improve and make the "big dance" this spring. It's nice to see a solid basketball team again in Tuscaloosa!

The freshman group is very talented... and inexperienced. Right now they look like freshmen. When we get our big guy back, these guys mature, and we get another talented class into t-town, I can see this group being final four material.

I have been very impressed with the defense and athleticism of our newcomers. Jacobs is much further along than I thought he would be. We haven't quite figured out how we want to work these guys in on offense.I was very impressed that in the Wichita State game we went a long period with Green and Releford on the bench and Lacey running the point and actually extended the lead. Last night we had a stretch where we played Eblen at the point and and held our own. At this point Levi seems to be the furtherest along of our freshmen.

I'm very impressed with the way Alabama plays defense. Perimeter shooting still concerns me a little. It's better than it has been in a while, but we still seem to have problems at times.

All I know is the Tide can play more than 6 players this year, the defense looks good, the freshman are making a contribution and we should be playing in the big show in March. How far we get remains to be seen but an NCAA tourney berth is a expected this year and not hoped for IMO.

This is easily our best team since 2002. Engstrom, even though he's still not very good, looks much better from last year. If he improves next offseason like he did this one, he might become a good role player. It's also great to see that Releford put in the work on his jumper. His form looks better and more importantly he shoots with confidence. Jacobs reminds me of a young Chuck Davis.
