šŸˆ THIS is a BIG reason I hate the F'ing irish

Sat in the end zone ....of the 73 game.... old Sugar Bowl...wind started...got cold...
Who have thought to bring a jacket....
And that pass ......for the first down by ND.... when it looked like bama was going to get ball back...
@mando.
I was 9 years old and watching on TV. Even then I was an unhappy camper. Also remember that 13-11 game. Very unpleasant memories.... Also why I am not fond of Ara Parseghian.

@mando
Realize bama n the BEAR went 1967-1974 without winning a bowl

That's awful.
Yep remember that also. Was born in 1964 so do not remember the 60's as much as the 70's games. My first Bama hero was #22 the Italian Stallion Musso. Anyway, I loved sports and especially Bama sports so any Bama loss was devastating. As you know those games were at a different level because of what was on the line. I would like to think I am better now with regards to how I handle losses but my wife would disagree smh :(.

I can get behind @bamaledge's sentiment to take ND "behind the woodshed" type of beat down. Would work for me...

I was also 9 in 74. My dad was a transplant 'Bama fan from KY and my mom had attended 'bama for 2 years so we were a Tide household. I didn't remember the 73 game- I was 8- but my parents had a party for the 74 game. I had to stay upstairs because of all the drinking but kept getting updates. I knew the game was for the championship. Never had so much anger as when my friend Ward's parents, the Johnson's ( auburn fans ) came up the stairs to joyfully announce that the domers had lost. I never asked Ward over to my house again! At that point according to my Dad Notre Dame had cost us the championship the last 2 years, and that alone was enough for me to hate them.

1977 was a horrible injustice that didn't make sense, and ONLY then was I educated about 1966.

Auburn. Seriously??? I had heard vague references by desperate Auburn fans about the 1972 game and punting etc. But we routinely beat Auburn by 28 to 35 points in the formative years of my fandom. Tennessee was the hated rival then, and only because we didn't play Notre Dame every year was my attention always on Tennessee. But my hatred of Notre Dame was first seared in 1974 and has only grown every year. I would pull for Auburn to beat Notre Dame every year if they played. And I pulled for Clemson to beat Notre Dame this year even though Clemson pisses me off. They are still not Notre Dame. If the Notre Dame volleyball team were playing I would gladly pull against them. And as I have said on this site before, if a Notre Dame victory would be advantageous for us to get into the football playoff, forget it! I would still pull against Notre Dame and shrug my shoulders and state that we should never have been in that situation to begin with if a Notre Dame win was going to be what we had to depend on!

F$#@ the freaking goldendomers always and forever! And ROLL DAMN TIDE!!!!

The '67 loss was to Gene Stallings. The '68 loss came 18 days after Pat Trammell died. I don't think Coach Bryant ever got over Pat's death. Especially in December. He finally found a way to get around it.

Read this and you'll understand why.

i have the letter from my mom when i was in VN telling me about PT dying. maybe newspaper clipping. I don't remember
With all going on...tet offensive...i felt my cheeks a little wet!

him n LeRoy were my favorite players of Bear era
saw him play in HS. If I remember correctly???? He scored the only TD on Gadsden HS that they gave up that year.
Ran the option

It was the Cotton Bowl 1969 or 70? Texas was the SWC Champ and went to the Cotton Bowl. ND was then allowed to go to a bowl game. For some reason I didn't like Texas and pull for ND to beat Texas,. Well, when I told my nephew, I pull for ND, he told me not to pull for that Yankee team!! From that day forward I didn't like ND. Even before that 1973 Sugar Bowl game! By the way, I still not a fan of Texas either! Also to let you know my nephew is a little older then me.

Growing up through 50s n 60s ( amd beyond)
Ga Tech and ND were most hated. More than AU.
Today... its AU and Tennessee.... for me anyway. My ND friends remind me about 73-74 games. I send them ...

You could send them the score of the 2012 NC game and maybe Eddie Lacy putting the spin move going into the end zone. Plenty of plays from that game to share:).

You know it is interesting the beat down was so convincing maybe it is not as painful as what Bama endured in the 73 and 74 games which could have gone either way. We keep talking about this and I am getting fired up. Will be ready to go out on the field and play (poorly I am sure but the spirit is willing :)).
