Several have mentioned not having nation chains in their area: Wendy's being the one that caught me off guard. So, it leads me to ask...

I'm in the north part of Charleston County. IF I just go five minutes...

From where I currently am, none. Hardee's is 10.9 miles. Church's, taco bell, McDonald's, BK. KFC, and Jack's are all about 30 miles.

This made me think (and look at a map), because I eat at very few.

Six miles to Publix (I'll eat from their hot trays), with Bojangles and DQ on outparcels out front. I'll eat biscuits and the breakfast platter at Bojangles, ice cream with grandkids at DQ.

Two more miles to downtown Pell City gets you to Captain D's, Sonic, McDonalds, Milo's, Huddle House, KFC, Daylight Donuts, Jack's, Subway.

Another mile to the interstate and you have Waffle House, Jersey Mike's, Burger King, Freddy's, Wendy's, Arby's, Chick-fil-A, Krystal, Zaxby's.
