The irony here is that Duke went 8-5 in 2018, and USC finished at what in 2019?
I wasn't a fan of Alabama opening with Duke. If I was honest I'd say Alabama hasn't really opened up against anyone meaningful in years. The media attempted to make FSU meaningful. But scheduling a top 5 game in the polls years in advance requires more luck than sense.
But at least Alabama is opening with a P5 top 15 all time program, which Duke isn't.
I tried pointing to this season in a discussion about USC several weeks ago.
You mention irony, I'm not sure there's a word to fit how this all shook out.
Bama's agreement with the ACC was originally thought to be a game against Miami. But that's
Miami,, it's not Duke. A small coincidence in this whole story is Duke closed their season out against Miami, with a win. The name alone would have changed the story.
Da 'Canes.
In both cases you're right; the two teams have the same records from their previous seasons. In Duke's case, I believe they had one fewer loss over the last two year period. Two teams from P5 conferences running the same numbers in wins and losses.
There's no difference there.
But geez, man, look at what we see at USC.
Helton on the hot seat from last season.
He's fired Pendergast (DC) and the last note I saw in his replacement the story indicated a Rams coach had turned the job down.
He's fired their special teams coach.
What's going on with their offensive coordinator? While Harrell did sign an extension in December he also is said to have interviewed with the Eagles this past week.
It's the Holiday bowl but the loss to Iowa isn't something from which you can build momentum.
