I put very little stock in most of the opinions given in 247's Crystal Ball.
I do find it interesting that in the last 24 hours beat writers for their Ole Miss site have Gary to Oxford.

@uagrad93 It seems like we got into a conversations some time ago about Gary to Michigan. I'm still thinking that's where he ends up. Ole Miss showing up like this?

I'm thinking the last thing these Ole Miss guys want to do is piss off Harbaugh, the UM boosters/alums, the B1g (even if it's Michigan, they'll be watching,) Delaney ...

I have noticed this as well and something is up in Oxford. Mique Juarez, a five star backer in California has them in his Top 2 and #1 currently. Now I understand anything can happen in recruiting, but Ole Miss has never pulled this kind of out of region talent. They don't have a National Championship or SEC Championship to run on. Hell, they don't even have an SEC West title to run on. They're sweetening the deal. This situation reminds me to the teeth of the movie Blue Chips.

I got into a heated Twitter conversation with these Rebel Black Bear fans when it was announced Tunsil was headed to the NFL. My tweet was to the extent, "no more chump change and loaner cars for him, he's going for the BIG payday!" Needless to say, these people were livid!! Their only response was, "all P5 teams cheat! You know they do! So BAMA doesn't cheat?"

"Extra" benefits happen everywhere to some extent. You can't police every single person who may come in contact with a kid. But in many places those are fairly minor, like free pizza at certain places, or bars letting the players in even under age, and other things like that. "Extra" benefits like large amounts of cash or free cars or housing are a much bigger issue and much rarer. It also matters to me whether the school is arranging these things or ignoring them or if the school is actually doing anything about them (cease and desist and disassociation) when they are made aware. I think Bama has done a good job of not being involved in it and disassociating when they find something ugly. You can't stop it all but showing that you will at least cut people off if you are aware is good enough for me.

Is there really a question that "extra" benefits happen at every major program?
Those who cover recruiting professionally, as well as several other "prominent" staffer's around the SE, speak often of the degree things have reached in Oxford.

People that I trust speak of paid visits, paid not to visit, paid per month, and other things. Remember, we aren't but a few months away from Freeze and his "prove it" comments which were followed, fairly soon, with Tunsil being suspended for extra benefits.

There's nothing that's changed my mind over the last three years that leads me to believe these MS SEC schools won't eat each other up before this is all said and done.

I've heard first hand about some offers to recruits from the aunt of of former recruit and Auburn player.

So would it be accurate to say that while everyone participates to some extent, there are some unspoken rules of engagement that some teams push the envelope on?

There is literally no way of keeping ALL of it out, its how your head man tries to police everything. Look at how things were with DuBose here, a free for all with the boosters. I promise that there are/is players that have someone in there ear either offering or flat out giving players something extra at every school. Its how the coach reacts to it if he is finding out. I honestly think Freeze is flat out encouraging it which is going to end up causing a hell of a lot of problems with Ole Miss when it is all said and done.

Is this what you saw..
Howard, I think this inquiry is related to the grade issue at ... was it ULL? The assistant coach in Oxford that is in another investigation. I'm speculating on that. One of the guys that told me about the letter said it was related to that investigation—he is an Ole Miss guy/grad. The others have said they've heard it's there but don't know the subject.

FWIW Gary and his mom are taking his last OV to Clemson on Thursday, but plan to come to T'town Saturday/Sunday on their own dime. Can this recruiting cycle be any nuttier than squirrel ****?!!

I haven't followed recruiting much in the past few years, but the uncertainty in this class this late in the season has grabbed my interest...specifically Gary.

While it would take a last minute home run effort on an unofficial to get in the game, finally snagging the #1 overall would be great.

Plus, his background piece on CFB live yesterday was awesome. Truly seems like an awesome, hard-working kid with his head on straight.

DeShawn Hand was #1 overall.
