šŸˆ The Rant: Blame Alabama. And blame Oklahoma.

The Crimson Tide and the Sooners are the BCS conference teams that have lost in bowl games to mid-majors Utah of the Mountain West Conference and Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference. They’re the reason that MWC commissioner Craig Thompson, who The Rant happens to think he’s a smart, savvy guy, is delusional pushing the [...]

Actually Thompson makes some sense. His idea won't get any traction because the BCS conferences like th financial advantages they have with the current set up. But what real justification is there for the two most powerful basketball conferences, theACC and the Big East, to have guaranteed places at the table for the BCS games.

I don't mind Thompson's idea at all. I'm all for a playoff as long as it doesn't get over 8 teams. The bad part is, if they were to ever start an 8 team playoff, so much bitching would go on by the top few teams left out, you can bet it would increase to at least 12 after just a few years.

At our fundraiser last month, Coach Stallings said that he was adamantly opposed to a playoff. Coach isn't one to mince words. He said that if you want to win the national championship, all you have to do is go undefeated, unless you're Auburn. He says that the lost time from classess, etc., would be very detrimental.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't look at football the same as I do basketball. As much as I loved seeing Valvano win the NC in basketball, in football I want the best team to win, not a team that gets hot for two or three weeks. I wouldn't want a three loss team winning the football championship over a one loss team. I don't want regular season football games to become meaningless. A few years ago when Florida won the basketball NC, Tennessee beat Florida not once but twice during the season. What did those games ultimately mean? Absolutely nothing.

There are 65 teams in the basketball tournament now. The first thing always discussed after selections are made public are the teams that should have gotten in but didn't.
