LSU was playing man. Hell, even Joe Kines knew not defend the Air Raid playing man coverage.

It's akin to leaving a steak on the floor and expecting your dogs not to eat. LSU's defense brought the plate and gave it to MSU to serve whatever entree they chose.

There's a reason Pelini didn't do well at Nebraska. It's the same reason he looked bad last night. He hasn't demonstrated the ability to defend offenses based in/on passing attacks. He did well when he was at LSU years ago when the SEC was essentially a downhill running league. Football, and the SEC, isn't the same now as it was 10 years ago.

In an Alabama perspective, it's akin to hiring Wendall Hudson for women's basketball. Orgeron was "comfortable" with Pelini but it wasn't a ground breaking hire. It was a retread.

Yep, it was bad enough to hire a guy not based on qualifications, but then Orgeron made repeated comments this offseason to take shots at Aranda while propping up Pelini. After that performance, those comments are simply embarrassing to read.

The Air Raid is designed to take what the offense gives you. I have read everything I can get my hands on about Leach and his Air Raid in the past several years. Here is what I have come up with so far: 1. The LB's and DB's have to be mix coverages to defend the pass. We cannot sit back in straight zone or man for many plays in a row. Disguise the coverage to show man, zone or combo and then go to something else. 2. The front 3 or 4 must get pressure on the QB. The grad transfer from Stanford is an experienced QB. He is going to be tough to fool so pressure from different angles is the key. 3. The offense has to control the clock as much as possible. I know its not flashy but the old grind it out 3 yards and a cloud of dust with an occasional pass thrown in just to keep the defense honest is huge. Leach's teams are going to score points, the goal is not to let them get in a rhythm and run their offense like they want to run it. Of course, I am not telling any of you anything that you don't already know. Personally, I am glad to see the offense in the SEC because now I don't have to watch or record all the Washington St. games now.

Easy to do that when guys are wide open. That's not just an indictment of bad tackling - which I am sure Ed O is trying to do in a lame attempt to take the spotlight off Pelini - it's an indictment of terrible defensive scheme that guys were wide open all game. Zero adjustments.
