🏈 The question I keep hearing is "Will the Air Raid work in the SEC?" They are missing the point in my opinion.

It work on LSU!! :p:D
Are people missing the point here?

LSU was playing man. Hell, even Joe Kines knew not defend the Air Raid playing man coverage.

It's akin to leaving a steak on the floor and expecting your dogs not to eat. LSU's defense brought the plate and gave it to MSU to serve whatever entree they chose.

There's a reason Pelini didn't do well at Nebraska. It's the same reason he looked bad last night. He hasn't demonstrated the ability to defend offenses based in/on passing attacks. He did well when he was at LSU years ago when the SEC was essentially a downhill running league. Football, and the SEC, isn't the same now as it was 10 years ago.

Gotta possess the ball on offense and win time of possession...

Zone and combo , keep the QB guessing and get some hits on him as well .

Or they will be able to find some plays that will work on the defense you are playing , and he will go for it on 4th alot it’s close

This is what irritated me the most: While Bo played man coverage against Leach's offense, but I can't help but think about this article I remembered reading about a while back: How Washington has snuffed out the Air Raid Basically, Washington stopped Leach's offense.
The Huskies know Leach loves his “mesh” series so instead of running with the crossers in man coverage and getting picked (like Michigan tried to do against Ohio State), they sit back, take away the deeper routes and rally down to make the tackle underneath.

If the defense can force the quarterback to have to wait for receivers to get open because it has filled the passing lanes with 3 more defenders then they have eligible receivers and it can get pressure on the quarterback at the same time, good things will happen.

That's something LSU didn't really do. You want to force MSU to wait longer for someone to get open, while they put pressure on QB. I think last night was combination of bad coaching, players who never experienced that and pure luck.

Having better talent and having that talent execute the scheme is the number one factor in UW’s win streak against the Cougars. Many teams have tried to stop the Air Raid, but few teams have succeeded. Chris Petersen and his Washington Huskies are one of those few teams.

Which leads me to ask, Saban loves man to man so will he really change or simply ask his studs to be studs. Secondary is the least experienced unit for bama but they have talent. A pass rush would help the secondary more than anything else. In the mean time on to the next opponent A&M.

LSU spent a lot of time in Cover 0 and Cover 1 (where their deep safety was toyed with by Leach.) When they were in Cover 1 you saw how much they missed Stingley.

When we've seen Bama take on this type of offense we've seen a lot of Cover 2; two corners and three linebackers covering the first fifths with the safeties halving. It starts with a Cover 1 look quite a bit and vice versa (blitzing from a Cover 1 set that looked like a Cover 2 at the snap.)

To go to the other side of this.

How well will Leach do at MSU? I believe Leach is a good coach and hell of a play caller. He has done well at both Texas Tech and WSU, once he has his players in the system. Despite having a lot of success and beating some good teams at both stops, he has never had a defense worth a piss. Until he gets a decent defense, he will never compete for a championship in the SEC, IMO. I do think he will keep them Middle of the Road in the SEC and have a good season every 3-4 years........and that is enough for the MSU faithful.

I agree that pass rush will be a key vs MSU's offense - that and running cover 2 - if they can't complete the deep pass and the early reads have to be executed, and are covered quickly, we will do well. Of course, while D Wright seems to cover well, I am not sure he will wrap anyone up?

Mississippi State, 9 yards of rushing. That's laughable.

I watched zero football yesterday, 2 pork shoulders didn't go as successfully as I'd have liked, and had to drive to pickup some freezers (they are IMPOSSIBLE to find right now). I was driving most of the day, down the Bitterroots and to Butte, so I listened to a handful of the games on TuneIn including the Alabama game. Looking forward to catching the game on YouTube this week.

Leach has a deadly accurate QB. They will carve up teams other than LSU. LSU had an accurate QB last year. You can go back to many of the really good offenses, and it starts with a really accurate QB. Wuerffel made Spurrier's O look better than it was. Regarding man or zone vs. air raid, Oklahoma got tons of zone coverages last year and still did okay. Bama will play man against MSU in a bid to attack and "affect the QB". I'm sure we'll play a little zone, too.

Reminder: Mike Leach (American football coach) - Wikipedia

He has average records in BIG 12 and PAC. He's good, but his offense wasn't good enough to help defense win the games.

I have two buddies who are TTech grads. They are still recovering from the Texas game yesterday, but they always said when Leach was there that he went all in recruiting offensive players, and the ones who didn't pan out got moved to defense.

They haven't in the past (Cover 0) which makes me wonder why you think they will now.

They spent last year in nickel and dime in zone. (Six snaps in nickel, 13 in nickel rabbit, 61 in dime rabbit.) They were playing man on the corners, but a lot of zone on the back end: Cover 2 and 3.

I don't get what you're thinking here, Tim.
