šŸ“ The Portal Watch 2020-2021: Florida's Emory Jones announces intent to enter the transfer portal

BTW, now that I've brought up Javon Baker. I've seen a mention or two about his transfer on the forums. In case you missed it he's landed at Kentucky.

Baker, along with recently signed Barion Brown, give Levis some nice options next season.
Would be nice to see KY move up to the top tier ofSECe....
I just dont think Tennessee will be able to for a while....
Still a lot of in fighting up there...finger pointing....( from what i hear...not much credence in it though)... though the fan support is building

#4, but #1 (Pickens) and #2 (Blalock)got hurt. #3 was probably Adoni Mitchell or Ladd McConkey, and then Burton. Burton jad the most receiving yards, but Bowers and the others were targeted more. He has speed, but have yet to see it teuly translate.
Let's not forget who he's had throwing the ball to him for the last few years, he's getting a major step-up in that regard. I've seen many talented receivers put up sub-par numbers because their QB just can't hit them in stride or isn't accurate enough.

Also, Adoni Mitchell is not better than him in regards to talent or Ladd McConkey. Pickens is a better deep/jump threat but a different type of receiver. Blalock jury is still out on, he's supposed to be better, but he got hurt this year.

Burton and his skill set, in my eyes were simply mismanaged. You know, ā€œsquare peg, round holeā€ deal. Like @TerryP said, here, he would fill that Metchie position with a little more deep threat capabilities. He’s a slant/dig type guy, not a 50/50 jump ball guy. I think it would be a more than solid pick up that would be beneficial to both parties. Burton’s numbers would likely double his best production from UGA.

If I remember, Burton had some decent catches vs us in 2020. I'll absolutely take him considering the youth we have at receiver. Plus we've had a ton of success in the transfer portal. If Saban wants him, then it's likely for good reason.

Not breaking news here, but it's pretty damn hard to know how he would fit in or fill roles in Crimson until everything unfolds. The truth is - There are lots of really good players who don't fit well in certain situations/programs... And there can be certain players who over produce due to situations/programs. It can vary from program to program and even year to year. Sometimes a guy just has bad luck with injuries... Sometimes a guy has bad luck with talent ahead of him... Or around him... for whatever reason it just didn't go his way. And on the other hand maybe a guy just isn't doing what he needs to do on the field, off the field, or a combination of both and he puts themself behind the 8 ball. Regardless - Every situation is different!!

This dude could come to Bama and fit in perfectly as a #1 or #2. He could come to Bama and get stuck behind one or two of these young cats who just emerges and takes over a huge role... They're all super talented. ELITE talent.

I will say that a guy like Williams is pretty rare though, where he was so little used at tOSU and comes to Alabama and absolutely dominates! Just a combo of tOSU having studs and likely him not pleasing the coaches in some way. tOSU was in the championship game the year he transferred... It's not like him not playing held them back, they were terrific. Ironically Burton transferring has some of the same similarities... I just think Williams was an exception, and do not expect Burton to be anywhere near that level of difference making... But this could also be his perfect fit, and he becomes an important piece to an offense that is clearly lacking experience at WR!

Probably need to point out the track record of non-juco transfers that CNS has taken recently...

-Coker (didn't start year 1... Was "expected" to.. but did start and do well)
-Dickerson (started had great career)
-Carl Tucker (started as blocking TE)
-Henry T (started and will continue to)
-J Williams (started & was awesome)

Not sure if I'm missing anyone? I guess the bigger point is that CNS hasn't taken a ton of transfers... And when he does, it's not just for depth purposes. That tends to be for developing young talent. Usually there is a plan and a role the guys he brings in, and they typically get on the field and do well.

Colin Peek from GaTech helped us a bunch, and the two WRs who transferred as seniors helped out, too - Mullaney and Dieter.

Maybe someone mentioned it but there is also the optics of this. A UGA WR leaving after a championship win going to Bama after their starting QB announced he was coming back. Gotta be some what's up with that thoughts floating around. Pretty sure those thoughts would have some truth to it. All pointing to UGA having issues attracting offensive playmakers in the long run with their scheme.

See what Kirbs does this upcoming season. Gonna be interesting.
