🏈 The original "wildcat"...David Palmer

Great video! He single handedly saved the Ole Miss and Tennessee games, and I'm sure more that I'm not remembering. Funny thing is when he lined up in the red zone everyone knew exactly what he was going to do, yet no one could stop him. I knew when he lined up in the last seconds of the UT game for the 2-pt. conversion that he'd get it....and he did.:smile:

I was at that game with my Hillbilly friend and when Palmer scored the 2 pt conversion that tied the game which is how it ended. We had won like 6 or 7 in a row against UT but atleast we didn't lose.

I was very young during Palmer's time in Tuscaloosa but was able to meet him in person at a UT/Bama game and he was sooooooooooo cool!

On the way down a friend of mine called and informed me that Palmer would be signing on the quad and I would never pass up getting an SEC legends autograph(actually a lie I turned down Spurriers autograph). We got to the quad late and the tent was packing up and people were beginning to wander to the stadium when I approached Palmer and asked if I could get an autograph and a picture. Not only did Palmer give us a great personalized autograph but right before the picture he grabbed my lucky orange UT hat and put it on!!! I still have the picture in a frame at my parents house of a young Vol fan wearing a Manning UT jersey and a one David Palmer wearing a Tennessee hat and a big grin.

Great Day and Great Guy!

David is a cool guy and good sense of humor as well. I ran into him during his playing days with the Vikings during the off-season at a gas station in the Birmingham area. I kept glancing over at him trying not to stare and I finally asked, "I am sorry but I think I know you from somewhere?". He responded, laughing, "I'm David Palmer, man. You know, the Deuce?" I shook his hand and we chatted for a couple of minutes. He was very amiable. Nice guy.

Palmer is singlehandedly responsible for getting be back into Bama football. I had been living in New York and had not really payed much attention to college football for a while. I came down to Birmingham on business and saw Bama play Tulane (I think) and Palmer's speed and versatility got me right back into Bama football again. I haven't missed watching a Bama game since.

Roll Tide Deuce! Roll Tide.

This guy was the best return man as far as I am concerned! He just had the ability to see a hole even before it would form and break right to it. The quick speed would have him running by people before they even knew he was there! Just a great player!

Thanks for the vid, Greg.

Little disappointed that Palmer's 90-yard punt return for a TD against LSU in Tiger Stadium (1991) was not included with those highlights.

That was a televised afternoon game instead of the usual Death Valley under the lights ; my LSU buddies who I went to the game with were not too happy about the early start time.

Loved watching him play. A player that played BIG. Had to hold your breath whenever he touched the ball.

Deuce = before Milons

I had classes with him and he could do things with a soccer ball that would make your head spin just like he did on Saturdays to opposing defenses. He is volunteering I believe now at Parker High School.
