🏈 The Jalen saga continues..

Hasnt he said all along that he is graduating in Dec.. then do a grad transfer. Seems he would be more valuable as a Grad Trans with 2 years to play than with only 1; but, who am I to do the math

Only thing Jalen has said is that he graduates in December. All of the grad transfer stuff, redshirt, etc. has come from the media and fans.

Well, pops did say he'd be the biggest free agent in college football history...

Left out a tad bit of context there didn't ya.

Na. Not really.

Will Alabama's Jalen Hurts Soon Become "The Biggest Free Agent in CFB History"?

"Coach Saban's job is to do what's best for his team. I have no problem with that," Averion Hurts said. "My job is to do what's best for Jalen—and make no mistake, Jalen is a quarterback, and he wants to play quarterback. He loves Alabama, loves Coach Saban and everything about that place. But he wants to play, and he will play…"

Averion stops mid-sentence because the idea of his son not playing for Alabama isn't one he takes lightly. What if Jalen doesn't win the job, he is asked?

He shakes his head slowly, answers begrudgingly. "Well, he'd be the biggest free agent in college football history." [/qutoe]

Leaving out IF is some pretty necessary

Daddy, Da Da, Father, Mr. Hurts....

Just pointing out the truth that the transfer speculation came from HIS DAD first. Please place blame accordingly.... If that's your thing.

It's still his dad and not Jalen himself... Jalen has said the direct opposite from the start.

Agreed. His pops, in context, brought a lot of extra media attention to Jalen.

Well...if remember right.....Tebow also started and won a playoff game.....a lot of hot shot QBs coming out of college cant say that........ a lot happened to being his commitments to life...and liberal idiot team fan base...and
The style of QB doesnt last long anyway vs those visious hitting LB and DBs...

Did you really just blame Tebow not playing anymore on liberals? That is a new low right there. Tim Tebow is not playing in the NFL right now because he simply couldn't fix his technique, magically create a stronger arm and refused to change positions. Blaming "liberals" is just silly, especially the Bronco fan base. They loved him. John Elway loved him as a person but knew things were going to go down hill. Go watch tape of any team the Broncos played twice that year. In those first games Tebow would suck for 3 1/2 quarters. The defense would keep them in it and then when the other team went to prevent defense Tebow started to make things happen. Part of it, finishing, was def. Tebow's heart, but when they would play the next time (Patriots, Chiefs, etc.) they would just come at him relentlessly the entire game and he was atrocious in all those games.

It wasn't "liberals" that got him cut from the Jets, either nor was it "liberals" that him cut from the Patriots when he was throwing picks against third string defenders in the pre-season. He was flat out a bad NFL QB. Period.

"BAD QB". He wasnt a great QB but not bad either ( its what you base good and bad on...as a player) kinda like Jalen. But you dont like him...wonder why?

He was a bad NFL QB, period. That's pretty much consensus at this point. Why do you think I personally dislike Tebow? I didn't like him when he was at Florida, because he was at Florida. Other than that I just thought he was a pretty terrible QB in the NFL and the people that simply wanted him to be a star because of his faith annoyed me but that's not his fault. He was an incredible college player, though. Never denied that. He fit Urban Meyer's system perfectly and the things he could do were maximized in that system. He didn't have to be super accurate or have a super strong arm in that system. He could have shitty mechanics and technique and pretty much be a big ass fullback that was damn near unstoppable to stop on the run that could also hurt you in the air, too. You can't get away with that in the NFL.

Idk, Randle Cunningham says you CAN do it.

Comparing Randall Cunningham to Tim Tebow is pretty damn silly dont you think? Just because Cunningham could scramble doesn't mean he had shit mechanics (he didnt), a noodle arm (he had an extremely strong arm) and wasn't accurate (he led the NFL in completion percentage and QB rating in multiple years). He was a freaking NFL MVP.

And Cunningham was more in the Michael Vick mold of being elusive/fast/freaky athletic, Tebow was more bruising than anything else. Dude was damn near 250. Those two are nothing alike.

Your last statement implies that you couldn't run as a QB in the NFL.

You're too young of a buck, but I actually watched the NFL back in the 80s and 90s. Sure, Cunningham wasn't a "running QB" by Tebow measures, but he DID get his fair share of positive chunk yardage by a lot of times "fullbacking" over quite a few defenders.

So it CAN be done, but you have to have a special arm to do it (being a "running" QB, and not just a freak athlete/runner that happens to have a serviceable arm like Tebow). Tebow did NOT, whereas Cunningham did.

That's not what I said... at all... I compared him to a fullback and said you couldn't do what he was doing in college in the NFL. That was not Cunningham's game and I very much remember him. More for his Vikings, post knee injury days, but I got a chance to see Cunningham juke plenty of guys out of their cleats.

Then you never saw him with the Eagles then, in his heyday.
No one watches the Eagles.

Where is @PhillyGirl ? Haven't seen much of her in months. Everything alright?

Hi I'm alive! It's been a rough year but I hope to be active again soon

Hi I'm alive! It's been a rough year but I hope to be active again soon

Reports of her demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Dude, Jalen ain’t redshirting

You really think he or Coach Saban is going to squander a year of his eligibility when it is a KNOWN foregone conclusion that he IS transferring in December?

Ninja, please.
Dammit SLO, I spit coke all over my desk with the “ninja please” phrase.
Yes, I know the original version. My high school was half and half and we got along just fine. When ever there was a fight it was usually black girl on black girl. Mannnn, let me tell you, DO NOT let a skinny white boy try to break it up!!! Experience bro... that’s all I’m sayin!

Got photos?

I'm starting to pick up a strong sense of gloom and doom among the competition. Many fan bases are opening wondering just how long a dynasty is allowed to legally exist. I tried to explain to volnation that coach Bryant dominated the 60s and absolutely torched the 70s. With another top class of recruits coming in, it's fruitless to put out dynasty on the clock.

Odds that Jalen gets on the field this weekend? this would end all speculation as well as his redshirt season
He’ll play A LOT

On the flip of the coin, if he does NOT play, then people will ask..

"Well he's obviously redshirting. Why waste those 4 games early in the season and not save them for later in case Tua DOES get hurt?"

2 things. Maybe they wanted him to have as many live game reps as possible BEFORE the need to possibly sub him for an injured Tua. New OC, new terminology, new approach to game planning. Then if Tua stays healthy, great. Jalen's not lost any eligibility. The other aspect of that is that what good does it do to sandbag those 4 games until they NEED to play him if he's not had any live game reps with the new OC (new terminology, new script, hell... Even a new rhythm/system with the gameday play calling from the sideline). So assuming that, he's an insurance policy that may risk a year of eligibility for the team IF Tua goes down later and Jalen has to play. Whatever the case, he needed live game reps early. We saw the same thing with Star Jackson when he was still here. CNS brought him in a couple times with the 1s in the first half for a couple games, once during a 2-minute situation just to get him that experience, and early in the season. Get him the reps NOW so he's not so lost if he NEEDS to play later. Little bit of a different scenario as Star wasn't a seasoned starter that lost his job, but the strategy behind prepping the backup is the same.

Here's another thing that I think even Gary (or someone on a live broadcast that I heard) mentioned... What if he DOES Redshirt this year, leaving 2 years of eligibility, but does NOT transfer? That means that he probably expects Tua to turn pro after the 19 season, giving Jalen one more shot as the starter as a RS senior (with a master's degree under his belt also).

Anyway, it's all hypotheticals and speculation now. All these questions will be answered this Saturday. My take on if he DOES play, it is either 1) the greatest sales job by Saban ever for this situation, or B) Jalen really does give zero fucks about business decisions and just wants to play.

You can love your teammates to the Nth degree but still amicably make a business decision that benefits your long term path, and your teammates would totally understand.

Then again, maybe he has no aspirations for football past college and maybe wants to be an actor or whatever. Maybe he's felt the pressure of HAVING to do certain things because of being a coach's son and maybe he chooses a path that's diametrically opposite to his dad's vicarious aspirations for his son.

We shall soon find out...

That's a lot of speculation to consider. When Hurts continued to go in over Mac Jones I didn't think there was a way coach Saban wouldn't be giving the next QB up the more significant snaps with the offense. I still don't. But then, so much of this hasn't made much sense and the 4 game RS rule has picked a bad time to rear its head. I know this, cause I just checked, it's Tuesday and everyone is still here.

We shall soon find out...

1. It would suck to see Jalen red shirt the rest of the year, sit out next year behind Tua, then get beat out again.

2. If he were making the best business decision, he wouldn't be playing QB.

3. You're right - We should know what's up after Saturday

Take this FWIW. I have not been to a game this year and most likely will not be able to make one. A friend, a colleague of mine, who has season tix told me that she could feel the air being let out of the stadium when Jalen came into the game. She soon after he came in about a third of the crowd left, like they knew not a lot more offense was going to be put on display.

I wasn't there; I can't verify that. CBS didn't focus on it...So like I said, take it FWIW.

(Regardless of the QB situation, I would stay for the game because I want to see 3's get in the game; they are the future of the team.)
